Félix Pago's WhatsApp bet: chatbot remittances to a $200M Series C unicorn

Félix Pago bets Latino migrants will send money through a WhatsApp chatbot on stablecoin rails; $8B processed, 11 markets, unicorn by 2026.

Félix Pago

The betThat Latino immigrants would send money through a WhatsApp chatbot, with USDC rails for speed and price - and that remittances could grow into lending and savings.Scaling

What the business is

A cross-border payments startup that lets US Latino workers send money to 11 Latin American markets through a WhatsApp chatbot, using conversational AI and USDC stablecoin rails to settle instantly at low fees.

Starting capital$2.5M pre-seed, followed by a 2023 pre-seed extension led by Switch Ventures with HTwenty, Contour and MELI Capital participating.

How it started

Félix Pago was founded in 2020 by Mexican immigrants Manuel Godoy and Bernardo García, who met as Wharton MBA students. Their bet: WhatsApp, already the operating system of Latin America, could host remittances, and stablecoin rails (USDC) could cut FX costs and settle 24/7, letting the startup undercut Western Union while keeping the experience as familiar as texting.

What happened

Félix raised a $15.5M Series A led by Castle Island Ventures in May 2024, when Mercado Pago and Nubank partnerships drove growth - Mercado referrals were 25% of new users - and volume grew roughly 30% month over month. A $75M Series B led by QED Investors followed in April 2025 after $1B+ in 2024 remittances. In September 2026 a $200M Series C - $87M in equity led by Andreessen Horowitz, $113M in debt from General Catalyst's Customer Value Fund - tripled its valuation to unicorn status; cumulative volume passed $8B across 11 markets and revenue grew 2.5x in 12 months.

How it ended up

Scaling: Félix became a unicorn with the 2026 Series C and is expanding beyond remittances into lending, savings and an AI financial assistant, with Brazil and Venezuela next on the market list.

Background

Félix Pago is a cross-border payments startup founded in 2020 by Mexican immigrants Manuel Godoy and Bernardo García, who met as Wharton MBA students. Its bet: US Latino workers would send money home through a WhatsApp chatbot - no new app to download - and that USDC stablecoin rails in the background could cut FX costs and settle around the clock, letting it undercut Western Union and MoneyGram while feeling like texting a person.

The product grew from a $2.5M pre-seed and a 2023 extension led by Switch Ventures to a $15.5M Series A led by Castle Island Ventures in May 2024. At that point partnerships with Mercado Pago and Nubank were driving growth - Mercado referrals were 25% of new users - and volume was rising roughly 30% month over month. TechCrunch's 2024 coverage described users completing most of a transfer in chat, with cash pickup available in Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras.

A $75M Series B led by QED Investors followed in April 2025, after Félix processed over $1B in remittances in 2024 and announced plans for savings and credit products and expansion into Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. In September 2026, a $200M Series C - $87M in equity led by Andreessen Horowitz and $113M in debt from General Catalyst's Customer Value Fund - tripled its valuation to unicorn status, with cumulative volume past $8B across 11 markets and revenue up 2.5x in 12 months.

The company now frames itself as the 'trusted companion' of the Latino immigrant: the Series C funds lending, savings and an AI financial assistant, with Brazil and Venezuela next on the expansion list, competing against Remitly, Wise, Bitso and the traditional players in a market worth over $160B a year. The story is a demonstration that distribution (WhatsApp) plus quiet infrastructure (stablecoins) can beat both legacy remittance incumbents and app-first fintechs.

What has to be true

  • It put the product inside WhatsApp, removing the app-download barrier and meeting users in a tool they already trust and use daily.
  • Stablecoins were abstracted away from users: USDC settlement cut FX costs and enabled 24/7 instant delivery, so the pitch was speed and price, not crypto.
  • Distribution partnerships with Mercado Pago and Nubank gave it a fast, credible user base in Mexico without paid acquisition at scale.
  • It kept expanding the wedge - from remittances to cash pickup to savings, lending and an AI assistant - so each round funded a wider slice of the customer's financial life.

What can be applied

Meet users where they already are: putting a money product inside WhatsApp removed the app-download barrier, and abstracting stablecoins into the backend made speed and price the pitch, not crypto.

Aftermath

As of September 2, 2026, Félix is a unicorn following the $200M Series C announced in late August/early September 2026, with cumulative transactions over $8B, about 6 million people served, and operations in 11 Latin American markets. The capital is earmarked for lending, savings and an AI financial assistant, plus expansion into Brazil and Venezuela. It competes with Western Union, MoneyGram, Remitly, Wise and Bitso for a slice of a Latin American remittance market valued at over $160B a year.
