Digital and in-person maternal care: postpartum home visits, pregnancy fitness and recovery studios, personalised education, health tracking and an AI assistant

Paediatric nurse Anna Strubel saw the gaps in pregnancy and postpartum care first-hand. Comparing notes with Carina Vantsi — whose first pregnancy's undiagnosed gestational diabetes led to a week of intensive care for her baby, and whose second, caught early and managed with insulin, ended in a healthy birth — the pair, with Keiro Vantsi, founded Suun Health in 2022 and started with postpartum home visits in Estonia, where little support existed.

The service expanded from home visits into personalised education, health tracking, movement programmes, and in-person pregnancy fitness, yoga, Pilates and postpartum recovery — online and through physical studios in Berlin and Tallinn. Content is created and reviewed by a network of more than 50 healthcare professionals including midwives and gynaecologists. An AI assistant launched in late 2025, built on the medically reviewed library, and adoption grew rapidly; in Estonia about 20% of pregnant women joined within 24 hours of launch.

Maternal mortality falls, but systems kept their survival focus, leaving wellbeing support treated as optional

Up to one in five women may experience a traumatic birth, yet few get continuous support afterward

The founders' own missed diagnosis showed the cost of women lacking information and confidence to advocate for themselves

Physical studios and home visits built the trust that made digital and AI adoption credible from day one

Trust-first sequencing in healthcare: earn credibility with in-person, medically reviewed care, then let AI amplify it — users arrive pre-sold and professionals pre-converted.

As of June 2026 the team's biggest focus was making the AI assistant more proactive and personalised — following up on reported issues over time — while scaling the flagship-studio model from Tallinn and Berlin toward London.
