TipTip's long-tail creator bet turns profitable via AI event ticketing
Indonesia's TipTip bet long-tail creators would sell content via promoter networks; by 2026 the same network made event ticketing EBITDA-profitable.
TipTip (PT TipTip Network Indonesia)
What the business is
TipTip runs an Indonesia-based entertainment and experiences platform: creators and event promoters sell content, live sessions and tickets through a hyperlocal network, with AI-powered demand prediction for ticketing and a new concierge-led travel arm, SatuSatu.
Starting capital:About US$23 million: a US$10 million seed in March 2022 and a US$13 million Series A in November 2022 led by East Ventures, with Vertex, SMDV and B.I.G. Ventures participating.
How it started
Albert Lucius, who had sold his previous startup Kudo to Grab in 2017, founded TipTip in October 2021 after seeing that COVID had normalized paying for digital content while most Southeast Asian creators still could not monetize — YouTube, Instagram and Patreon favour creators who already draw advertisers. TipTip launched its marketplace in July 2022, saying revenue had grown 20 times since October, with creators earning over US$200 on average within 30 days of being active, and it raised a US$13 million Series A led by East Ventures eight months after its US$10 million seed round.
What happened
TipTip built the creator-promoter-support loop: creators sold videos, documents, courses and live sessions; promoters acted as affiliates to their own small communities for a commission. By the end of 2025 more than half of all transactions came from self-onboarded promoters, evidence of the network effect the company had bet on. The bigger discovery was in entertainment: TipTip moved into event ticketing and experiences, deploying an AI system that predicts ticket demand with over 99% accuracy, according to the company. In Q1 2026 entertainment-ticketing gross revenue rose 56% quarter on quarter, net revenue jumped 283% from Q4 2025, contribution margins improved 50% after the AI deployment, and TipTip reached company-wide EBITDA profitability in early 2026.
How it ended up
Still running and expanding: EBITDA-profitable since early 2026, TipTip launched SatuSatu, a curated local-experiences platform, and in August 2026 rolled out the Bali All-Access Pass — unlimited access to 50+ experiences with a concierge — with SatuSatu on track to serve 10,000 monthly customers.
Background
TipTip's founding bet was that Southeast Asia's long-tail creators — chefs, musicians, teachers without big follower counts — could earn by selling content directly instead of waiting for ad money. Founder Albert Lucius, who had sold Kudo to Grab in 2017, started the company in October 2021, and by its November 2022 Series A the marketplace claimed 2,500 creators, 30,000+ users across 40 Indonesian cities and 20x revenue growth since launch.
The mechanism was a hyperlocal creator-promoter-support loop: promoters acted as commission-based affiliates selling creators' videos, courses and live sessions to their own communities. By the end of 2025 over half of TipTip's transactions came from self-onboarded promoters, showing the network had taken root. The company then pushed the same engine into entertainment ticketing and experiences, adding an AI system it says predicts ticket demand with over 99% accuracy.
The pivot showed up in the numbers: entertainment-ticketing gross revenue rose 56% quarter on quarter in Q1 2026, net revenue jumped 283% from Q4 2025, contribution margins improved 50% after the AI deployment, and TipTip reached company-wide EBITDA profitability in early 2026. In August 2026 it launched the Bali All-Access Pass through SatuSatu, its concierge-led experiences platform, which the company said was on track to serve 10,000 monthly customers — a profitable creator-economy startup now selling events and travel, not just content.
What has to be true
- TipTip bet against the ad-algorithm model: creators without clout would pay for direct monetization tools, with a promoter network as the distribution layer.
- The same network later proved more valuable in events than in content — ticketing transactions overtook creator sales and drove the company to EBITDA profitability.
- AI demand forecasting gave the ticketing business an edge on working capital, lifting contribution margins by 50% in Q1 2026, per the company.
- Self-onboarded promoters now drive over half of transactions, evidence that the marketplace became self-sustaining rather than dependent on paid recruitment.
What can be applied
A sales network built for one market can serve a bigger one: TipTip's promoters found their strongest demand in event ticketing, where AI made the engine profitable.
Aftermath
As of September 4, 2026, TipTip was EBITDA-profitable and scaling in two directions: AI-powered entertainment ticketing across Indonesia, and SatuSatu, a concierge-led local-experiences platform whose first major product is the Bali All-Access Pass with unlimited access to 50+ curated experiences. The company said SatuSatu was on track to serve 10,000 monthly customers, with more Indonesian destinations planned after Bali. Founder Albert Lucius remained group CEO, and lead investor East Ventures continued to back its expansion.
