起因

Tomas Mikolov, creator of word2vec who worked at Google and Meta, Jaroslav Beck, co-creator of Beat Saber whose studio was acquired by Meta, and AI researcher David Herel founded BottleCap in Prague in 2025. Their argument was contrarian in the scale race: most industry progress came from spending more on GPUs, and Europe could not outspend its way to frontier AI, so efficiency had to be a design principle from the start.

BottleCap built CAP1, a proprietary foundational model designed for efficiency, and developed Pulse internally to aggregate AI and research news. In January 2026 the company announced a $7.5M seed led by 20VC with a roster of European founder angels, and launched Pulse: Community News for free on iOS, adding community sentiment signals to headlines; 20VC's Julien Codorniou framed the bet as proof that the next frontier AI company could be built in Europe.

Still in its first year: the seed funds continued efficiency-focused model research and a pipeline of CAP1-powered applications, with both business and consumer products planned beyond Pulse.
