Shraman (19) and Shreyas (20) Kar, brothers and Stanford CS students, watched Sora and Veo-class models produce flashy scenes that could not explain a 10-step workflow, spell words correctly, or keep a diagram consistent. They saw training, onboarding and education as an underserved market, dropped out of Stanford, founded Golpo in 2025 and joined Y Combinator's Summer 2025 batch.

The hard part was the engine. First they fine-tuned a language model to emit Manim Python animation scripts, but the generated code broke on imports and timing. Then they tried a custom diffusion video model — incoherent past about 30 seconds, no control over content, and too expensive to scale. They settled on training a reinforcement learning agent to 'draw' whiteboard strokes step-by-step for clear, human-like explanations. Golpo launched on Hacker News 2025-08-13 (116 points, 93 comments). In October 2025 it announced a $4.1M heavily oversubscribed seed led by BNVT Capital, with Emergence Capital, Y Combinator and Afore Capital; Golpo 2.0 added frame-by-frame prompt editing and videos from 15 seconds to 30 minutes via API.
