LiveEO bets EUDR turns satellite data into compliance software; €51.6M raised
Berlin startup betting the EU deforestation law makes satellite analytics a mass market: €25M Series B after revenue tripled in 2023.
LiveEO
做的是什么生意
Satellite imagery + AI analytics for infrastructure monitoring, plus EU deforestation compliance software.
起因
Founded in Berlin in 2018 by space engineers Daniel Seidel and Sven Przywarra; first customer Deutsche Bahn; built Treeline (vegetation management) and SurfaceScout (pipeline risk), winning customers like E.ON, Iberdrola and Network Rail.
经过
Revenue tripled in 2023; in Nov 2023 raised a $10M first close led by Greencode Ventures explicitly to enter the EUDR compliance market; launched TradeAware; in Jun 2024 raised a €25M Series B led by NordicNinja and DeepTech & Climate Fonds, taking total funding to €51.6M; headcount ~130 by mid-2024.
结果
Still scaling: by 2025 the team was 160+ with $60M+ raised; in Apr 2025 partnered with SAP consultant Westernacher to embed TradeAware in enterprise systems. The mass market is still forming — EUDR was delayed twice and now applies to large operators from 30 Dec 2026.
背景
LiveEO was founded in Berlin in 2018 by space engineers Daniel Seidel and Sven Przywarra to turn satellite imagery into industrial risk analytics. Its wedge was infrastructure: Deutsche Bahn became the first customer for Treeline, an AI vegetation-management product that keeps trees off railway and power-line corridors. By 2022 the company also monitored pipelines with SurfaceScout, counting E.ON, Iberdrola and Network Rail among customers.
The strategic bet came in 2023, when the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) gave importers a deadline to prove that commodities such as soy, cocoa, coffee, palm oil, cattle, rubber and wood in their supply chains were deforestation-free. LiveEO called it 'the first mass market with millions of users for EO analytics', launched TradeAware, closed a $10M first funding tranche led by Greencode Ventures in November 2023, and tripled revenue in 2023.
In June 2024, NordicNinja and the German state fund DeepTech & Climate Fonds led a €25M Series B, taking total funding to €51.6M. By 2025 the company had 160+ people and $60M+ raised; in April 2025 it partnered with SAP consultant Westernacher to embed TradeAware into ERP workflows for the 1.2M companies it says will need EUDR proof.
But the market kept moving: EUDR's application was delayed from December 2024 to December 2025, then again to December 2026, with the Commission citing IT systems that were not ready. LiveEO kept scaling its infrastructure and climate-risk business, but the regulatory payoff it banked on is still ahead of it.
这件事要成立,得有什么
- EUDR gave one compliance deadline to roughly 1.2M companies importing commodities into the EU — a demand shock existing satellite vendors were not built for.
- LiveEO reused its infrastructure AI stack instead of starting from scratch, keeping the wedge cheap and the moat deep.
- Venture money followed the law: Greencode, NordicNinja and German state fund DTCF backed a company whose market is literally a legal text.
- The two EUDR delays show the bet's risk: revenue timing sat outside the founders' control, and only diversification kept growth going.
可借鉴之处
A fixed compliance deadline creates a vendor market, but the date is political: EUDR slipped twice, so revenue due in 2024 only lands in 2026. Reg-tech bets need a business that survives delay.
后续进展
As of September 2026, LiveEO is still scaling: it monitors over a million kilometres of grid, employs 160+ people, and has raised more than $60M. TradeAware continues to sell ahead of EUDR's now-December 2026 application date, and the company has expanded across infrastructure and climate-risk software. The bet on regulation remains intact; only the calendar changed.
