起因

Dan Siroker (ex-Google, founder and former CEO of Optimizely) and Brett Bejcek started Rewind around 2020 on the bet that everything you see, say, or hear should be searchable. The Mac app recorded screen and audio locally, and a16z backed it with $10M in 2022; a later 'unusual' Series A, raised by posting a pitch video on X, reportedly went unused.

经过

In April 2024, with generative AI making searchable memory more useful but competition bigger, the company rebranded to Limitless: an AI meeting suite plus a $99 pendant, which pulled 10,000+ preorders. It stopped actively building the Rewind app, dropped the promised Windows version, and bet that a wearable could own the memory category before larger AI players did.

结果

By late 2025 that bet had lost: bigger players were shipping their own AI wearables, and on Dec 5, 2025 Meta acquired Limitless for undisclosed terms. Hardware sales stopped immediately, subscription fees were waived, and the Rewind app — the original product — was wound down, with data export or deletion offered.

可借鉴之处

吸睛的演示不等于市场：可搜索记忆始终是小众，每次转型（应用到挂件）都是重新押注于OpenAI和Meta拥有更强分发和更深口袋的品类。
