起因

Louis Lecat, an early Asana product-team member and later Head of Product at Algolia, founded the company in 2023 after concluding that structured, asynchronous communication beats endless chat. As AI went mainstream, the idea grew from improving team communication into enabling humans and AI agents to collaborate in the place where work actually arrives.

经过

Upstream spent months in an invite-only beta with thousands of users, then went public on June 3, 2026 alongside its $3M pre-seed. The June 18 Product Hunt launch landed the product at #3 on the June 2026 monthly leaderboard with 899 upvotes. The platform launched on web, desktop (Mac and Windows), and iOS with Gmail support, plus MCP compatibility so users can bring their own agents in.

结果

Still early and running: publicly available with a free tier and paid Pro plan, expanding toward Android and Outlook, and positioned against Gmail by betting incumbents cannot rebuild for agent collaboration.
