What the business is
Adapty is a New York City-based growth platform for mobile app subscriptions: paywall A/B testing, analytics and revenue tracking for app developers.
Starting capital
$2.5 million raised to date after the seed round led by Surface Ventures with participation from irrvrntVC, both funds met via 500 Startups.
How it started
Founded by Vitaly Davydov, Kirill Potekhin and Dima Podoprosvetov, Adapty went through 500 Startups, presenting at the accelerator's 27th demo day in February 2021, and grew from 50 apps at pre-seed in 2020 to about 2,500 apps by late 2022 with roughly 40 full-time employees.
What happened
Apple and Google provide no easy way to maximise app earnings, so Adapty positioned itself as growth-focused rather than infrastructure-focused, in a category led by RevenueCat. The seed funds two goals that need headcount: geographic expansion and machine learning — starting with a lifetime value prediction tool, on the argument that pooled data from every app category yields far more accurate models than any single developer's data.
What has to be true
Apple and Google leave revenue optimisation to third parties, creating a durable gap for a growth layer.
Pooled data across 2,500-plus apps is the claimed edge for LTV prediction — a network effect single-app tools can't match.
Expanding Apple's 30% cut and softening app spending make revenue optimisation a must-buy, not a nice-to-have.
RevenueCat leads subscription infrastructure, so Adapty differentiates on growth outcomes rather than plumbing.
What can be applied
In platform ecosystems, the data aggregator sees what no single participant can: pooled cross-customer data is a moat the platform itself declined to build.
Aftermath
As of the 9 November 2022 report, Adapty was hiring across geographic expansion and machine learning, with an LTV prediction tool on the roadmap and 8 million monthly tracked events flowing through its system.
