Aindo is a Trieste-based generative-AI startup that creates synthetic data — artificial datasets with the statistical properties of real data but no sensitive information — for healthcare, finance and public-administration analytics.

That EU data-sharing rules — the Data Act from September 2025, EHDS from March 2025 — colliding with GDPR would make synthetic data the safe way to move and use data.

€6M Series A (Oct 2023) led by United Ventures; €2.1M EIC Accelerator grant (2025)

Aindo was founded in 2018 in Trieste by three AI specialists — Daniele Panfilo (CEO), Sebastiano Saccani (R&D) and Borut Svara (CTO) — as a startup of SISSA, the International School for Advanced Studies. Its early work applied synthetic data in healthcare, from predictive analysis of pharmacological therapies in rare diseases to hospital care optimisation and remote monitoring, where privacy rules made real patient data unusable.

In October 2023 Aindo closed a €6 million Series A led by Italian VC United Ventures with participation from Vertis SGR, citing Gartner's estimate that synthetic data would make up 60% of data used in AI projects by 2024, up from 1% in 2021. In 2025 it won a €2.1 million EIC Accelerator grant — one of 71 companies selected from 1,211 applicants, and one of three from Italy — to scale its generative-AI platform, with the project running from April 2025 to March 2027. Meanwhile the EU Data Act entered into application on 12 September 2025 and the EHDS Regulation entered into force on 26 March 2025, both pushing data sharing while GDPR still constrains personal data.

Still operating and expanding across healthcare, pharma, finance and public administration; no exit as of September 2026.

The Data Act, applicable from 12 September 2025, makes data from connected products and services shareable, while GDPR restricts moving personal data — synthetic data squares the two.

EHDS, in force from 26 March 2025, pushes reuse of electronic health data for research while forbidding re-identification; Aindo's platform is built explicitly for GDPR and EHDS compliance.

Aindo started in healthcare, the most privacy-constrained data sector, giving it a wedge where sharing is mandatory but personal data cannot leave.

Gartner's forecast that 60% of AI-project data would be synthetic by 2024 gave early investors a measurable market thesis.

A mandate to share collides with a mandate to protect: the Data Act and EHDS force data to flow, GDPR stops personal data from moving, and synthetic data captured the gap.

As of September 2026 Aindo is operating and expanding, with the EIC Accelerator project running from April 2025 to March 2027 and sector offerings selling synthetic data for clinical research, pharma real-world evidence, finance and public administration. It has not disclosed revenue, profitability or customer counts, and no exit has occurred.
