On 2025-06-18 Wix announced it was acquiring the six-month-old, bootstrapped company for $80 million in cash, with milestone payments possible through 2029 and a $25 million retention pool for the team. Shlomo explained the sale by saying organic growth could not reach the scale the market demanded, and that Wix's resources were the fastest way to get there.
Under Wix the product kept scaling: in November 2025 Wix reported Base44 had surpassed two million users and a $50M ARR run-rate, and by May 2026 the run-rate was $150M. In June 2026 Base44 launched Base1, an LLM fine-tuned on open-source foundations specifically for application building, replacing general-purpose models — Shlomo remained CEO of the division.

In June 2026 Base44 announced Base1, an in-house LLM fine-tuned on an open-source foundation for application building, reducing dependence on OpenAI and Anthropic. Founder Maor Shlomo stayed on as Base44's CEO.
