How it started
Charm was founded in 2019 in New York to make the command line glamorous, building open-source terminal tooling that grew to 150,000+ GitHub stars across its ecosystem. In mid-2025, Kujtim Hoxha built a terminal-based AI coding agent that got Charm's attention — the founder flew to Prishtina, Kosovo to meet him, and on 30 July 2025 announced the project, renamed Crush, had 'come home to Charm'.
What happened
Crush launched to a 367-point, 235-comment Hacker News discussion on 2025-07-30 and became one of the fastest-growing terminal agents of 2025: ROSS Index Q4 measured 14.3k stars with 14.3x growth, and by June 2026 the repo had 25,233 stars. The product supports a wide range of models (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, OpenRouter, local models and more), uses LSPs for code context, ships three MCP transports, and works across macOS, Linux, Windows, Android, FreeBSD and NetBSD. Charm launched Hyper, a subscription-based, privacy-focused (zero data retention) inference service as Crush's official provider.

Still scaling: the repository remained live and actively released through September 2026, with a desktop app in beta and Hyper expanding as the commercial layer.
