DDD Invoices bets one API wins Europe's e-invoicing mandate wave
Ljubljana's DDD Invoices turns national e-invoicing mandates (Poland KSeF, Romania, Hungary) into one API for software vendors; €1.31M seed in May 2026.
DDD Invoices
What the business is
DDD Invoices is an API-first platform that lets SaaS, ERP, POS, marketplace and payments providers emit tax-compliant e-invoices in more than 30 countries: it takes standardized invoice data, converts it into each country's format, validates it against local rules, and routes it to tax authorities or networks such as Peppol.
Starting capital:€1.31M seed round led by Fil Rouge Capital with 500 Global and angel investors, announced May 2026.
How it started
Father-and-son co-founders Denis Vehovec Pondelak and Dušan Pondelak founded DDD Invoices in Ljubljana in 2023, watching European tax authorities replace paper invoicing with incompatible national systems: Italy's SDI, Poland's KSeF, Romania's e-Factura, Hungary's NAV. The bet was that software vendors, not governments, would pay for compliance infrastructure, and that the mandate wave rolling out through 2024-2026 would turn e-invoicing from an option into a legal requirement for millions of businesses.
What happened
DDD bootstrapped the product through 2024-2025, building converters and validators for the Central and Eastern European mandates as they came into force, and adding AI extraction so legacy PDF invoices could enter the compliant pipeline. In May 2026 it closed a €1.31M seed led by Fil Rouge Capital with 500 Global to expand country coverage, speed integrations and grow product, engineering and go-to-market teams.
How it ended up
Still live and scaling as of 2026-09-02: seed funded, covering 30+ regimes, and riding the 2026 mandate year in which Belgium's B2B mandate (Peppol, from January 2026), Poland's KSeF and France's large-company receiving obligation (from September 2026) all took effect or began phasing in.
Background
DDD Invoices is a Ljubljana-based company founded in 2023 by Denis Vehovec Pondelak and Dušan Pondelak to build API-first infrastructure for e-invoicing compliance. Its product takes standardized invoice data from a client's ERP, SaaS, POS, marketplace or payments system, converts it into the format each country requires, validates it against local rules, and routes it to the tax authority or a network like Peppol - across more than 30 jurisdictions, with AI-based extraction for invoices that arrive as PDFs.
The strategic bet was that Europe's uncoordinated e-invoicing mandates - Italy's SDI, Poland's KSeF, Romania's e-Factura, Hungary's NAV, Belgium's Peppol requirement - would create one infrastructure market, because every software vendor selling across borders would rather integrate one API than maintain a connector per country. The 2026 calendar made the bet concrete: Belgium's B2B mandate began in January 2026, Poland's KSeF mandate landed in 2026, and France's obligation for large companies to receive e-invoices through registered platforms began in September 2026.
In May 2026 DDD closed a €1.31M seed round led by Fil Rouge Capital with 500 Global, using the money to widen country coverage and speed up integrations. The company remains a small, infrastructure-stage player compared with incumbents like Sovos or Basware; its case rests on whether API-first distribution can make it the default compliance layer for the ERP and payments vendors who must support this wave of national mandates.
What has to be true
- Mandated e-invoicing creates buyers who cannot opt out: every B2B seller in a mandated country must emit structured invoices, so demand is driven by law rather than by marketing.
- The mandates are simultaneous but fragmented - Peppol in Belgium, KSeF in Poland, e-Factura in Romania - which punishes one-country products and rewards a single multi-country API.
- Software vendors own the last mile: an ERP or marketplace that already touches the seller can bundle compliance, so the API layer that wins their integrations wins the market.
- The company timed its founding (2023) and funding (2026) to the enforcement calendar, avoiding the trap of building before the mandates became law.
What can be applied
When many governments mandate the same behaviour with different formats, value concentrates in the horizontal layer - the single integration beats one-off national products.
Aftermath
As of 2026-09-02 DDD Invoices is live and seed-funded (€1.31M, Fil Rouge Capital with 500 Global), covering more than 30 national e-invoicing and fiscalization regimes including Poland's KSeF, Hungary's NAV, Romania's RO_eFactura, Croatia and Serbia. The EU ViDA regulation, targeted for 2030, is expected to push cross-border structured e-invoicing across member states, extending the same market DDD serves. Competition includes national incumbents and larger compliance suites; DDD's differentiator is a single API aimed at software vendors rather than end businesses.
