DUPR bets one universal rating becomes pickleball's standard; 2M players, 3,233% growth

A free pickleball player-rating platform that gives every player a 2.000-8.000 score from match results and provides clubs, leagues and tournaments the technology layer around that standard.

That pickleball's boom would converge on one rating standard adopted by leagues, clubs and governing bodies; without adoption, DUPR is just another app.

DUPR was started in 2021 by Steve Kuhn, founder of Major League Pickleball, who saw recreational players with no reliable way to know their level. It applies a modified Elo algorithm to recreational and tournament matches, giving every player one ageless, genderless rating after a single logged match, free to use.

In January 2024 real-estate developer David Kass, tennis star Andre Agassi and Raine Ventures took a controlling interest with an $8M investment; DUPR then had 500K users, 20% month-over-month growth and a presence in 140+ countries, with Tito Machado staying as CEO. By 2026 it reported 2M+ players across 15,000+ organizations, became the official rating system of Major League Pickleball and the PPA Tour, and came to own Minor League Pickleball and Collegiate Pickleball. Pickleball Inc., owner of the PPA and MLP, took an equity stake in DUPR and raised $225M led by Apollo Sports Capital in April 2026 at a $750M valuation.

Still scaling: DUPR is the de facto global pickleball standard, and in August 2026 began folding AI video analysis into ratings. Its ecosystem bet rode pickleball's rise to 24.3M US participants in 2025 and a record $225M Apollo round for Pickleball Inc.

One neutral, match-result-based scale is a natural monopoly: players, clubs and events all want the same language, and DUPR became the official rating of MLP and the PPA Tour (PlaySight, Apr 2026).
