What the business is
Inflection.io builds AI-native B2B marketing automation; Keyplay helped sales teams identify and score target accounts.
The bet
That standalone point tools lose as AI agents pick the platform: account scoring only matters inside the execution layer the agents act through.
Starting capital
Keyplay: $3M seed (2022). Inflection: about $14M to date, most recently a $7.6M round in June 2024.
How it started
Aaron Bird founded Bizible in 2011, sold it to Marketo in 2018, and stayed as Adobe Marketo's SVP of Product before launching Inflection in 2021 with Dave Rigotti and Vic Davis. Schoenfeld, co-founder of Simply Measured (sold to Sprout Social), started Keyplay in 2022 with Andrew Rothbart.
What happened
Bird had floated 'someday we should buy you' early in Keyplay's life. Keyplay talked to a few possible buyers; talks with Inflection got serious in January 2026 and the deal closed in mid-March. Schoenfeld joined as CMO, Rothbart as senior engineering; the combined company has 47 employees across North America and Bangalore.
What has to be true
Keyplay's founder concluded his category had become 'more feature than company' once AI agents started doing the targeting inside broader platforms.
Consolidation logic: buyers are standardizing on a few AI-agent-ready core platforms, and a standalone scoring tool has no path to becoming a consolidator.
For Inflection, the deal adds the account-intelligence context its agents need plus senior marketing and engineering talent for its Seattle office.
Fifteen years of cross-investment made diligence fast: 'we'd been closely following each other from the start, in both directions.'
What can be applied
When a platform shift changes who the buyer is, a feature-sized product sells better as a module of someone else's platform than as a standalone company.
Aftermath
As of the April 8, 2026 announcement, Inflection planned to integrate Keyplay's account scoring and intelligence into its platform starting that quarter, giving its AI agents built-in knowledge of which accounts to target and why. Existing Keyplay customers keep the standalone product for now, with a path to the same capabilities inside Inflection over time.
