How it started
Co-founders Marian Pulford (CEO) and Austin Pulford, a licensed architect with 20 years of practice, started Kestrel Labs in Denver in 2025. Austin had lived the problem: compliance issues surface at plan review, causing redesigns and permit delays, while senior architects' code knowledge retires. They built Kestrel to put the code inside the BIM workflow and were accepted into Techstars Boston Fall 2025.
What happened
In June 2026, at the AIA Conference on Architecture and Design, Kestrel launched the Kestrel Platform — Compliance Analysis, Compliance Chat and Portal — and announced $2.15M in pre-seed financing from New Stack Ventures, FirstMile Ventures, Denver Ventures and Avesta Fund, plus a data agreement with the International Code Council. Distribution includes the Autodesk Design & Make Marketplace and Trimble Connect Marketplace.

Background
Kestrel Labs' bet is that building-code compliance should move from a painful milestone after drawings are done to a continuous check inside the design itself. Co-founded in Denver by Marian Pulford and Austin Pulford — a licensed architect with 20 years of practice — the company translates International Code Council data into machine-executable rules that run inside Autodesk Revit.
The wedge is speed and citation: one click runs a full compliance check in about 30 seconds, with every violation mapped to a model element and cited to the exact code section; a Compliance Chat answers project-specific questions in plain language, and a web Portal gives firm leadership the picture without a BIM file. Kestrel was accepted into Techstars Boston Fall 2025.
