Langflow's visual-RAG bet: self-funded Logspace builds a 154k-star tool, DataStax buys it

Open-source, drag-and-drop visual framework for building RAG and GenAI application workflows, initially as a no-code GUI over LangChain.

Developers building GenAI apps would rather drag-and-drop RAG flows than hand-code LangChain, and an open-source tool could win that audience without venture capital.

Self-funded — no venture round reported before the DataStax acquisition (undisclosed sum).

Logspace was founded in January 2022 in Brazil by Rodrigo Nader and Gabriel Luiz Freitas Almeida, who had worked on machine learning at Bitvore. They self-funded the company as an ML consultancy, then released Langflow in March 2023 as an open-source no-code GUI for visually prototyping LangChain flows.

Langflow spread quickly through GitHub and developer communities as the RAG wave hit. By the April 2024 acquisition, its community had grown past 15,000 developers on GitHub and 10–12 staff joined DataStax. After the deal Langflow kept operating as a separate entity, and growth accelerated: it crossed 100k GitHub stars on 2025-08-14 and reached about 154k by September 2026.

DataStax acquired Logspace on 2024-04-04 for an undisclosed sum; Langflow continued as an independent team inside DataStax and kept climbing GitHub (100k stars in Aug 2025, ~154k by Sep 2026).

Self-funding forced product-market fit the hard way: Langflow had to spread on its own merits because there was no marketing budget.

Timing was the wedge: Langflow launched in the 2023 LangChain/RAG wave, before a visual builder had become the category default.

The acquisition was strategic, not a rescue: DataStax needed a front end for its RAG stack and agreed to keep the team independent.

Post-exit star growth (100k to 154k) shows the community kept compounding once the product was owned by a company with distribution.

As of 2026-09-01, Langflow remains open source under DataStax with roughly 154k GitHub stars (global rank #55) and a steady release cadence — version 1.11 shipped in July 2026 with human-in-the-loop checkpoints, A2A protocol support and AG-UI streaming, and a desktop app followed in August 2026. It operates as a separate entity from the original Logspace team, and its positioning has shifted from RAG prototyping toward low-code agentic workflow development.
