Langflow's visual-RAG bet: self-funded Logspace builds a 154k-star tool, DataStax buys it
Two Brazilian ML consultants self-funded a drag-and-drop builder for RAG apps; it went viral on GitHub and DataStax acquired it in 2024.

How it started
Logspace was founded in January 2022 in Brazil by Rodrigo Nader and Gabriel Luiz Freitas Almeida, who had worked on machine learning at Bitvore. They self-funded the company as an ML consultancy, then released Langflow in March 2023 as an open-source no-code GUI for visually prototyping LangChain flows.
What happened
Langflow spread quickly through GitHub and developer communities as the RAG wave hit. By the April 2024 acquisition, its community had grown past 15,000 developers on GitHub and 10–12 staff joined DataStax. Background
Langflow is an open-source, drag-and-drop visual framework for building RAG and GenAI application workflows, originally a no-code GUI over LangChain. Logspace, its Brazilian maker, was founded in January 2022 as a self-funded ML consultancy by Rodrigo Nader and Gabriel Luiz Freitas Almeida, both formerly of Bitvore.
The bet was that developers building GenAI apps would prefer visually composing flows to hand-coding LangChain — and that an open-source tool could win without venture money. What has to be true
- Self-funding forced product-market fit the hard way: Langflow had to spread on its own merits because there was no marketing budget.
- Timing was the wedge: Langflow launched in the 2023 LangChain/RAG wave, before a visual builder had become the category default.
- The acquisition was strategic, not a rescue: DataStax needed a front end for its RAG stack and agreed to keep the team independent.
- Post-exit star growth (100k to 154k) shows the community kept compounding once the product was owned by a company with distribution.

It operates as a separate entity from the original Logspace team, and its positioning has shifted from RAG prototyping toward low-code agentic workflow development.
