Liangpei bets AI matchmaking with a refundable marriage guarantee can fix dating apps
Ex-Kimi search lead Zeng Xinxun's Liangpei uses AI interviews and a refundable three-year marriage guarantee; Xu Xin's Capital Today led a ¥15M angel.

What the business is
Liangpei is an AI-powered, marriage-oriented dating app in China: an AI matchmaker conducts a roughly 20-minute voice interview to build a user profile, a matching model picks one same-city candidate at a time, and users pay for quarterly, lifetime, or a ¥2,000 'marriage guarantee' plan that is refunded if they do not marry within three years.
Starting capital:¥15 million (about $2 million) angel round led by Capital Today's Xu Xin in July 2026; she asked for 20% and raised the amount from the founder's planned ¥10 million for 15%, putting the post-money valuation near ¥75 million (36Kr/TMTPost).
How it started
Zeng Xinxun, who led AI search for Moonshot AI's Kimi after earlier search and recommendation roles at WeChat and TikTok, founded Liangpei Technology in August 2025. His insight was that matching a person was the same technical problem as high-precision information search. Xu Xin of Capital Today, who had screened AI recruitment and AI dating teams for months, met him for three hours and agreed to lead the angel round.
What happened
Liangpei launched its mini-program in 2026 and by late August reported just over 10,000 registered users across six cities, an average profile of 463 characters generated from AI voice interviews, and more than 50 married people blocked in the first week. It mixes models including Doubao, DeepSeek, Qwen, and Kimi for different steps and was training its own 7B-14B matching model. TMTPost's analysis questioned whether 1,000-2,000 users per city provide enough density for one-on-one matching and whether a refundable guarantee is sustainable before three years of escrowed revenue.
No ending yet — it is still running.
Background
Liangpei Technology, known in English coverage as Perfect Match, is a Shenzhen AI dating startup founded by Zeng Xinxun, the former head of AI search at Moonshot AI's Kimi. The product's core idea is that finding a partner is a search-and-matching problem: an AI matchmaker runs a 20-minute voice interview, builds a detailed profile, scores it, and then selects one same-city candidate at a time for the user to talk to.
Zeng left Moonshot in August 2025, giving up options he says rose tenfold after his departure. Xu Xin of Capital Today, who had reviewed AI recruitment and AI dating teams for months without investing, met him for three hours and led a ¥15 million angel round in July 2026, taking 20% at roughly a ¥75 million post-money valuation. Capital Today made only five investments in the prior year.
By late August 2026, 40 days after launch, the company said it had just over 10,000 registered users in six cities and an 18-person team. Its differentiating design choices include real-name and face verification, a profile score threshold, one-on-one conversation instead of swiping, anonymous AI-avatar questions about sensitive topics, and pricing of ¥300 per quarter, ¥1,000 lifetime, or ¥2,000 for a 'marriage guarantee' that refunds users who do not obtain a marriage certificate within three years, with funds held in escrow.
TMTPost framed the bet as a deliberate break from Jiayuan, Baihe, and Zhenai, whose subscription models profited while users stayed single, but warned that one-on-one matching needs density and that 10,000 users spread over six cities may be too thin for quality matches. The founder's own arithmetic assumes about 10% of guarantee buyers marry within three years, which would make the unit economics work; whether that happens is still unproven.
What has to be true
- Zeng applied search-engine logic to dating: understand intent, analyze criteria, and match, which is the same pipeline he led at Kimi.
- The AI voice interview attacks a measurable failure of old apps, raising average profile depth from 132 to 463 characters and reducing the burden on users who cannot describe themselves.
- Real-name checks, face recognition, and a profile score threshold directly target the fake-profile and fraud problems that sank earlier Chinese dating platforms.
- The refundable marriage guarantee ties revenue to the user's goal, reversing the subscription incentive that made successful matches bad for business.
- The open risk is density: with about 1,000-2,000 users per city, one-on-one matching may not have enough supply to work before it reaches scale.
What can be applied
When a marketplace's revenue conflicts with the user's goal, redesign pricing to align them; refund guarantees create trust, but cold-start density and three-year survival are the real tests.
Aftermath
As of 2026-09-04, Liangpei is live as a mini-program with an app reportedly close to launch, backed by a ¥15 million angel from Capital Today and covered by 36Kr and TMTPost in July-August 2026. The company reports 10,000+ registered users, 50+ married applicants blocked in the first week, and an 18-person team, but has not disclosed retention, match rates, or how many paying users bought the ¥2,000 guarantee. Its stated near-term goal is to reach roughly 10,000 users in each major city before the density argument can be tested.
