LimeWire is a subscription and ad-supported platform where creators make and distribute content; BlueWillow generated AI images through Discord.

BlueWillow was bootstrapped by founder Ritankar Das; LimeWire raised about $17.5 million through token sales from Arrington Capital, Kraken, Crypto.com Capital, CMCC Global, Hivemind and deadmau5. Deal terms undisclosed.

The Zehetmayr brothers relaunched the shut-down file-sharing brand as an NFT marketplace for musicians, raising $17.5 million in token sales; when NFT interest cooled, they pivoted to a broader create-and-distribute platform, with NFTs 'more of a sideline' in Julian Zehetmayr's words.

The deal keeps BlueWillow on Discord while folding its technology into LimeWire's paid and advertising-based free tiers as the anchor for future media services. No BlueWillow talent transferred: founder Ritankar Das's team advises transitionally, then leaves en masse for a stealth AI venture. For the bootstrapped founder, rising compute costs made selling the natural choice.

BlueWillow brought users (2.5 million) and working technology, replacing third-party integrations overnight.

The deal excluded talent — LimeWire bought the community and the weights, not headcount it couldn't retain.

Discord distribution gave a free community a direct path into LimeWire's paid tiers.

A notorious old brand plus a hot new community can be a shortcut: buy the audience and the technology rather than build either.

BlueWillow continues on Discord while LimeWire integrates image generation into its website, with video and audio generation on the roadmap.
