LISSOME is a Ningbo AI-kitchen-appliance startup incubated at XbotPark Ningbo. Its first product, the R1 capsule dishwasher, launched May 2025 at ¥2,499: a 28 cm-wide, no-install countertop machine for 1–3-person households with a 100 kPa brushless pump, four spray arms and a 15-minute wash-and-dry cycle.

Mining Xiaohongshu comments with 1,200 co-creating families can reveal a product people buy: a small countertop dishwasher big brands ignored.

Angel round of tens of millions of RMB in February 2023 from Clear Water Bay Fund and XbotPark Ningbo, a Pre-A in November 2025, and a Series A of tens of millions of RMB in June 2026 led by Sequoia China and Brizan Ventures with HKX and existing backers following.

Founder Xie Mingzuo (Steve), a robotics and hardware engineer who had co-founded a mining-robot and machine-arm company, hit the problem himself: his rented 60 m² Beijing apartment had no kitchen that could take a standard dishwasher. Searching Xiaohongshu, he found thousands of renters and small households describing the same wall, so LISSOME was founded in December 2021 inside XbotPark Ningbo, with Xu Lingjie (Eak, ex-Dobot and ex-DJI) as co-founder.

The company raised an angel round in February 2023 and a Pre-A in November 2025, launched the R1 in May 2025, and iterated through 17 prototypes driven by user feedback: the control panel moved to the top, anti-mold drying was added, and a timer was built for overnight off-peak electricity. In June 2026 it closed a Series A of tens of millions of RMB led by Sequoia China and Brizan Ventures, earmarked for a second-generation AI dishwasher, an AI cooking-machine line and overseas expansion.

R1 topped Xiaohongshu's benchtop-dishwasher ranking in its first month and stayed at the top of e-commerce category lists; more than 60,000 units had shipped by mid-2026, and a Makuake crowdfund raised over ¥130 million from 1,638 backers in Japan. In August 2026 LISSOME shared the grand prize at Xiaohongshu's 2026 种草大赏 with Huawei and Kolon, and it is building an AI kitchen-robot product matrix for global small-kitchen users.

LISSOME inverted the research flow: Xiaohongshu comments and 1,200 in-home visits defined the product, so demand existed before the machine did.

Measuring real countertops exposed the 28 cm constraint benchmark-driven teams missed, making 'fits my kitchen' the moat rather than a spec war.

The community doubled as distribution: the same 4×500-person fan groups that shaped the prototypes became the launch audience, compressing the gap between research and first buyers.

Results back it: first-month category leadership, 60,000+ units by mid-2026, a Sequoia-led Series A and Xiaohongshu's own grand prize show co-creation found a real gap.

Let users' repeated complaints pick the product, then verify it in their homes: a stack of comments naming one unserved need beats lab research and competitor benchmarks.

As of 2026-08-27 LISSOME is scaling: the R1 sells across Chinese e-commerce platforms and a Japanese Makuake campaign raised over ¥130 million from 1,638 backers, with more than 60,000 units shipped by mid-2026. The Series A announced in June 2026 funds a second-generation dishwasher with more AI and robotics, an AI cooking-machine line, supply-chain scale-up and global expansion beyond Japan and China. The open question is whether the comment-first method scales to adjacent categories and overseas markets, where Xiaohongshu's demand signals are weaker than at home.
