How it started
Tim J. Baek, a University of London and Simon Fraser CS graduate, released v0.1.102 under the name Ollama WebUI on 2023-09-25 (repo created 2023-10-06): a friendly frontend for running local LLMs through Ollama. On 2024-01-30 the Ollama team asked him to rename to avoid trademark confusion, and after a community vote the project became Open WebUI.
