Orbio bets AI agents, not spreadsheets, run frontline hiring and workforce ops
Orbio raised $21M from Dawn Capital to let AI agents interview, onboard and manage the 2.7B deskless frontline workers.
Orbio
What the business is
Enterprise platform whose AI agents (Maria, Daniel, Claire) interview candidates, run onboarding, monitor output and check in daily with frontline workers for employers like YUM! Brands.
Starting capital:$21M Series A led by Dawn Capital; $26M raised to date (June 2026)
How it started
After a decade at Amazon and floriculture startup Colvin, Bastardas concluded the missing piece was efficient 'human infrastructure' for the workers behind the scenes. In 2025 he and co-founders launched Orbio, an enterprise startup whose agents handle hiring, onboarding, engagement and retention for deskless workforces in healthcare, retail, logistics and hospitality.
What happened
In June 2026 Orbio announced a $21 million Series A led by Dawn Capital, taking total funding to $26 million with Visionaries and 2100 Ventures. Customers Poke and YUM! Brands progressed from pilots to full deployment; The Stepping Stones Group now runs its entire US operation on Orbio, with interview bookings up from 65% to 85%, candidate satisfaction above 98%, and 20% more candidates making it to a hire.
How it ended up
Scaling: live across Europe, the US and Latin America with global enterprise customers; the fresh capital funds more AI agents and continued expansion.
Background
Orbio is a Spanish startup betting that the 2.7 billion people who keep healthcare, retail, logistics and hospitality running — most without a corporate email address — are the largest unserved market in enterprise software. Its answer is a suite of AI agents, named Maria, Daniel and Claire, that interview candidates, assess fit, run onboarding, monitor output and conduct daily check-ins across a frontline employee's whole lifecycle.
The bet came from CEO Sergi Bastardas, who spent a decade at Amazon and flower-delivery startup Colvin watching frontline operations run on spreadsheets, phone calls and fragmented manual processes. In 2025 he and co-founders Nacho Travesí and Antonio Melé launched Orbio to replace that with agents that feed data into each other: onboarding signals inform recruiting quality, exit interviews recalibrate hiring criteria, and engagement data flags retention risk.
In June 2026 Orbio announced a $21 million Series A led by London-based Dawn Capital, bringing total funding to $26 million. Customers already include Poke House and YUM! Brands, owner of KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut. At behavioral health provider The Stepping Stones Group, a pilot grew eightfold and now runs the company's entire US operation: interview bookings rose from 65% to 85%, candidate satisfaction sits above 98%, and 20% more candidates make it through to being hired.
The company frames its competition as the legacy approach rather than other software vendors, and says the capital will go toward hiring and developing more AI agents as customers rebuild their operating models around the platform.
What has to be true
- Frontline industries are the largest workforce in the world, yet two decades of enterprise software was built for desk-based knowledge workers, leaving an open category.
- AI agents make the manual parts of hiring and retention automatable at a scale spreadsheets and phone calls never could.
- Customer proof was fast: within months of launch, global enterprises like YUM! Brands moved from pilots to full deployment.
- The agents compound data across the employee lifecycle, making each stage better as the others feed it signals.
What can be applied
The biggest software gap is often a missing user base, not missing features: 2.7B workers never got enterprise software, so an AI-native agent layer can rebuild the category from scratch.
Aftermath
As of June 14, 2026, Orbio serves customers across Europe, the US and Latin America, with Poke House and YUM! Brands deploying company-wide and The Stepping Stones Group running its entire US operation on the platform. The $21M Series A brought total funding to $26M, earmarked for expanding the AI agent suite and hiring. The startup is scaling as one of the better-funded players in AI-native frontline workforce management.
