Postiz bets AI agents need a social distribution layer; PH #1 and $1.3M ARR in two years
Nevo David's open-source scheduler for 30+ networks bet agents would need a publishing layer: PH #1 on 2026-05-01, 34.8k GitHub stars, $1.3M ARR in two years.
Postiz
What the business is
Postiz is an open-source, self-hosted social media scheduling platform that posts to 30+ networks and is designed to be driven by AI agents through a CLI skill or MCP connection.
How it started
Nevo David, an Israeli full-stack engineer, ran a string of failed startups, then worked at open-source startup Novu as a growth marketer (helping it reach 30,000 GitHub stars) and consulted at $3,000–$4,000/month. He built Gitroom, a launch-prep SaaS, spent six months on it, concluded the market was too small, and pivoted to Postiz in 2023 — open source from day one.
What happened
Postiz grew through repeated Product Hunt launches, Reddit r/selfhosted changelogs every two weeks, GitHub trending and an affiliate program; its first dominant launch took #1 and produced around $1k MRR (Gitroom blog, Dec 2024). The May 1, 2026 relaunch as an agentic scheduler — 'connect Postiz to OpenClaw, Claude, nanoclaw or PaperClip and schedule thousands of posts to 30+ networks' — took #1 Product of the Day with 415 upvotes.
How it ended up
Still running and growing: roughly $113k MRR / $1.3M ARR after two years, 34.8k GitHub stars as of August 2026, and a positioning that keeps widening — now promoted for OpenClaw, Hermes, Claude, ChatGPT, Codex and Cursor.
Background
Postiz is an open-source, self-hosted social media scheduling platform that posts to 30+ networks including X, Bluesky, Mastodon and Discord. Founded by Nevo David in 2023 after a series of failed startups, it was open source from day one and aimed at an alternative to Buffer, Hypefury and other schedulers — with the twist that it could also be driven by an API and, later, by AI agents.
The bet evolved with the market: when AI agents began generating content, David repositioned Postiz as the missing distribution layer — the place agents like OpenClaw, Claude, nanoclaw and PaperClip call to schedule thousands of posts across networks through a CLI skill or MCP connection. The May 1, 2026 Product Hunt relaunch made that argument directly and took #1 Product of the Day with 415 upvotes, ahead of Zed 1.0.
The growth engine was open source itself: repeated Product Hunt launches, Reddit r/selfhosted changelogs every two weeks, GitHub trending, and an affiliate program. A first dominant Product Hunt launch produced roughly $1k MRR and a spot among top launches of the year, and by June 2026 the founder reported about $113k MRR — $1.3M ARR in two years, with the repo at 34,815 GitHub stars by August 2026.
As of August 2026 Postiz remains an independent, growing product with no disclosed venture funding, and its homepage now markets agentic scheduling to OpenClaw, Hermes, Claude, ChatGPT, Codex and Cursor users.
What has to be true
- Postiz made itself infrastructure rather than a dashboard: agents call it through CLI/MCP, so the product rides the agent wave instead of competing for human seats.
- Open source manufactured reasons to reappear — each release or changelog was content for the same audience, making four Product Hunt launches and years of Reddit posts sustainable.
- The founder's growth-marketing background (30k stars at Novu, paid consulting) meant distribution was engineered, not hoped for.
- Repositioning ahead of the wave — being the agent publishing layer before OpenClaw blew up — is what turned the product's revenue curve from ~$21k to ~$70k MRR in two months.
What can be applied
Open source is a distribution engine: every release is a fresh reason to reappear — and positioning ahead of a platform wave (agents) turned ~$21k MRR into ~$70k MRR without changing the product.
Aftermath
As of 18 August 2026 Postiz is live and scaling as a bootstrapped product: the GitHub repo was last pushed on 2026-08-18 with 34,815 stars and 6,559 forks, and the founder reported $1.3M ARR (~$113k MRR) two years in, per his June 2026 Indie Hackers post. The product now markets agentic scheduling via CLI and MCP for OpenClaw, Hermes, Claude, ChatGPT, Codex and Cursor, plus API/n8n/Make automation for teams, and claims 7M+ downloads. No venture round or acquisition has been disclosed; figures come from the founder's posts, the GitHub repo and the Product Hunt leaderboard snapshots.
