What the business is
Bengaluru construction management software that connects site and office to track progress, attendance, materials, invoices and budgets
The bet
Existing backers will fund a smaller round at a steep markdown so the construction management software can keep scaling
Starting capital
Rs 17.13 Cr (about $2M) through 1,739 Series A2 CCPS, Rs 8.56 Cr each from Accel India and Surge Ventures; Rs 117 Cr raised to date
How it started
Iesh Dixit and Shubham Goyal founded Powerplay in 2019. In August 2022 it raised $7M led by Accel at a valuation of about Rs 600 Cr ($75 million).
What happened
According to TheKredible, the new round values it at around Rs 258 Cr ($30 million) post-money, a 57% cut. After the round Accel would hold 21.25%, India Quotient 15.70%, Surge 15.47% and the co-founders 38.22% together. FY24 revenue grew 43% to Rs 4.39 Cr from Rs 3.07 Cr while losses narrowed 14% to Rs 31.92 Cr; FY25 financials had not been filed.
What has to be true
No new funding had arrived in three years, leaving the company dependent on existing backers
Losses of Rs 31.92 Cr dwarfed revenue of Rs 4.39 Cr in FY24, limiting valuation
The 2022 valuation of $75M reflected a market that no longer existed in 2025
Accel and Surge participating equally signals insiders still back the company
What can be applied
Insider-only rounds at a deep markdown can keep a startup alive when outside investors stay away, but losses seven times larger than revenue leave little room.
Aftermath
As of 2025-08-01, Powerplay was set to close a Rs 17.13 Cr insider round at about $30M post-money, according to filings, with FY25 accounts still unfiled.
