Seekee's LatAm bet: all-in-one AI browser tops Google Play with a free movie-search hook
Zhou Weimin's all-in-one AI browser Seekee launched in December 2024 and topped Google Play download charts across Mexico, Brazil, Chile and Peru.
Seekee
What the business is
An all-in-one AI browser for mobile: AI search, cloud drive, image generation, document conversion, homework help and translation, plus entertainment-resource search, sold as Pro/Plus subscriptions.
How it started
Zhou Weimin, a 1990-born entrepreneur from Hubei who founded RenRen Video (2014, 300M+ registered users) and Loklok (2021, 200M+ users across 100+ countries), launched Seekee in December 2024 on Google Play with Latin America as the focus market.
What happened
Seekee's ad push intensified from July 2025, with Spanish/Portuguese TikTok influencers promoting free movie and TV search. By Q3 2025 it debuted at #9 in Sensor Tower's overseas-download ranking — the top Chinese going-out AI app, ahead of ByteDance's Cici at #13 — and data.ai showed it reaching #1 on Google Play download charts in Mexico, Brazil, Chile and Peru. Diandian data put it at #1 on Mexico's Google Play tools chart for 147 consecutive days.
How it ended up
Still live and scaling: AppMagic counted 5 million Latin America downloads in April 2026 (up 25% month over month, entering the region's overall top 10), and Sensor Tower data cited by 36Kr put Seekee in the global top 10 of 2025 AI-chatbot downloads despite its late 2024 launch, with peak monthly downloads near 800,000 in November 2025.
Background
Seekee is the third venture of Chinese entrepreneur Zhou Weimin, who built RenRen Video (300M+ registered users) and the overseas streaming app Loklok (200M+ users in 100+ countries) before turning to AI. Launched in December 2024 on Google Play, Seekee is an all-in-one AI browser — AI search, cloud drive, image generation, document conversion, homework help and translation — aimed squarely at Latin America.
Its growth hook was entertainment-resource search. Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking TikTok influencers with millions of followers promoted free movie and TV search as the entry point, and ad spend jumped from July 2025. By Q3 2025 Sensor Tower ranked Seekee #9 in overseas downloads — the top Chinese going-out AI app, ahead of ByteDance's Cici at #13 — and data.ai showed it reaching #1 on Google Play download charts in Mexico, Brazil, Chile and Peru.
Seekee monetized through Pro and Plus subscriptions covering cloud storage, ad-free viewing and extra AI search. Early revenue was tiny — about $7,883 in in-app purchases over 30 days in late 2025, up over 100% month over month — but growth was the story: Diandian counted 147 straight days at #1 on Mexico's Google Play tools chart, and AppMagic measured 5 million Latin America downloads in April 2026, a 25% monthly jump that put Seekee in the region's overall top 10.
What has to be true
- The wedge was local, not technical: free movie and TV search answered a real LatAm demand that global AI chatbots ignored.
- Influencer-led, language-matched ads in Spanish and Portuguese scaled cheaper than a global brand push.
- Bundling a dozen tools behind one subscription matched how LatAm users already thought about super-apps, a pattern proven in China by Quark.
- Launching on Google Play only, with no iOS split, concentrated rankings and made chart domination achievable in less than a year.
What can be applied
When a market is owned by global incumbents, win the entry point they ignore: a locally relevant free feature plus influencer distribution can outrank a better chatbot in emerging markets.
Aftermath
As of September 2026 Seekee is live and scaling in Latin America, still a young product with no disclosed funding. 36Kr (March 2026), citing Sensor Tower, put it in the global top 10 of 2025 AI-chatbot downloads despite a late-2024 launch, with its top five markets all in Latin America. AppMagic counted 5 million Latin America downloads in April 2026, entering the overall top 10; Baijing reported subscription revenue growing but still small. Open questions: whether the movie-search hook retains users as novelty fades, and whether subscriptions can cover a heavyweight ad budget.
