After Bose acquired his startup The Sync Project in 2018 and later exited sleep wearables, MIT PhD Yadid Ayzenberg founded SOND in February 2022 with MIT classmate Amir Lazarovich, betting that sensors and batteries had finally gotten small enough for a true closed-loop sleep device.
The team ran comfort studies and private betas, then came out of stealth on 2026-05-27 with a $7M seed led by MIT-affiliated E14 Fund plus Crosslink Capital and Ubiquity Ventures, opened reservations at sond.com, and launched a Kickstarter that passed $500K and 1,000 backers within weeks, targeting mass production for Q2 2026.
Bose's exit left proven demand for sleep audio unmet just as sensor and battery tech matured, creating a timing window.
The ear is the only location that both senses physiology and delivers audio, making a true closed-loop device physically possible for the first time.
