An enterprise GenAI startup optimizing information discovery - knowledge agents for answers and internal task automation.

Enterprises would pay for a 'Private Google': GenAI agents that answer internal queries and automate form-filling and ticket management.

$200K (INR 1.8 crore) from angel investors

Launched in 2019 by Vishnu Ramesh, a BITS Pilani graduate, and Manish Shrivastava, an assistant professor at IIIT Hyderabad, with the dream of building a 'Private Google' for enterprises.

The startup raised $200K from a clutch of angels including G Vamshi, Raju Sailesh Sigatapu, Mohit Gulati and Gowri Shankar Nagarajan. Product engineer Sarath Chandra was elevated as third cofounder in 2021 and left in December 2023, moving to Shift Logistics in February 2024. In April 2024 Ramesh told Inc42 the company was in talks for a $1M seed round and targeted $500K of revenue in FY25; neither materialized. Total revenue since 2020: INR 55 lakh.

Ramesh announced the shutdown on LinkedIn on July 3, 2025, citing inability to raise fresh capital along with lack of market focus and infrastructure go-to-market; the startup's web domain expired. He plans a new vertical-AI venture, this time as chief technology officer.

The Hyderabad funds Ramesh had counted on never delivered budgets, leaving the startup without runway.

Ramesh himself cited lack of market focus - the product spanned answers, forms and tickets without one wedge enterprises paid for.

Infrastructure-heavy go-to-market costs outpaced a company with $200K raised and INR 55 lakh of cumulative revenue.

Investor appetite was not the constraint: 57% of 80+ investors in an Inc42 survey planned early-stage AI investments in H2 2025.

A broad 'we do everything AI' product without one sharp market focus struggles to convince early-stage investors; picking a vertical beats breadth when runway is thin.

As of July 7, 2025, subtl.ai's web domain had expired and Ramesh was planning a new venture offering vertical AI solutions, taking the chief technology officer role instead of CEO. Inc42 noted the failure ran against industry trends: its investor survey found 57% of 80+ investors looking to fund early-stage AI startups in the second half of 2025, while rivals kept raising.
