TalkMe bets AI tutors can replace human language classes; PH #1, 1000% YoY growth
Singapore's Inspired AI built TalkMe, an AI-native language app that hit Product Hunt #1 in March 2025, passed 1M learners, and grew 1000% YoY.
Inspired AI (TalkMe AI)
What the business is
TalkMe AI is an AI-native language learning app from Singapore's Inspired AI: users practice real conversations with hyper-realistic AI tutors across 10,000+ lessons and 11,000+ user-created scenarios.
Starting capital:$3.5M angel round in November 2024 from Seas Capital, Jinqiu Capital and GSR Ventures.
How it started
Jia Zijian, a serial entrepreneur who led NetEase's movie-ticket product, ran browser monetization at 360 (over ¥200M revenue in six months) and built Xueersi's first AI course in 2018, founded Inspired AI in Singapore in 2023. His bet: generative AI could make speaking practice feel like talking to a real person, removing the fear and cost that kept learners silent.
What happened
TalkMe joined the 2024 Google for Startups Accelerator and hit No.1 on Product Hunt in March 2025. At Google I/O 2025 it showed a fully AI-generated brand film built on Gemini, Veo 3 and Flow; by then it had 1M+ learners, 10,000 lessons and 11,000+ user-generated scenarios. In September 2025 the company reported 1000%+ YoY growth in users and ARR with revenue doubling in three months, plus a $3.5M angel round closed in November 2024.
How it ended up
Still scaling: by August 2026 the app's store listing claimed 2M+ learners at a 4.9 global rating; Inspired AI reported positive cash flow on TalkMe and ListenLeap revenue of hundreds of thousands of dollars per month, and was building an 'education AI agent' roadmap.
Background
TalkMe AI is the flagship product of Inspired AI, a Singapore company founded in 2023 by Jia Zijian, a serial entrepreneur who previously led NetEase's movie-ticket product, ran browser monetization at 360, and built Xueersi's first AI course in 2018. His bet was that generative AI could finally make speaking practice feel like talking to a real person — removing the fear and cost that keep language learners from ever speaking.
TalkMe lets users hold free-flowing conversations with hyper-realistic AI tutors across 10,000+ lessons and 11,000+ user-created scenarios, in English, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French and more. It joined the 2024 Google for Startups Accelerator and reached No.1 on Product Hunt in March 2025; at Google I/O 2025 it showed a fully AI-generated brand film built on Gemini, Veo 3 and Flow that went viral.
By August 2025 the app had 1M+ learners with a 4.8+ global store rating; paid learners used it 3–4 times a week and spoke 2,000+ words weekly, with 60%+ still active after three months. In September 2025 Inspired AI reported 1000%+ year-over-year growth in both user base and ARR, with revenue doubling in the prior three months, on top of a $3.5M angel round from Seas Capital, Jinqiu Capital and GSR Ventures.
The company kept shipping: ListenLeap (English podcasts and YouTube) and Stances (an information-traceability product) followed TalkMe, and by 2026 the app's store listing claimed 2M+ learners at a 4.9 rating. Inspired AI told 36Kr that TalkMe and ListenLeap together generated hundreds of thousands of dollars per month with positive cash flow. All growth figures are company-reported.
What has to be true
- Speaking practice was the hardest, most expensive part of language learning; an AI tutor that never judges removes the fear that stops learners from speaking.
- Generative AI made content near-free: 10,000+ lessons and 11,000+ user scenarios at a fraction of the cost of recorded studio content.
- Serving learners globally rather than one market let a small Singapore startup grow 1000% YoY without a sales force.
- The Google for Startups Accelerator and a Google I/O showcase gave TalkMe distribution and credibility that paid ads could not buy.
What can be applied
AI-native flips the cost curve: when lessons are generated rather than recorded, a small team can serve many languages — the moat is the content pipeline, the test is paid retention.
Aftermath
As of September 2026 TalkMe continues to scale: the app's store listing claims 2M+ learners at a 4.9 global rating, and Inspired AI told 36Kr that TalkMe and ListenLeap together generate hundreds of thousands of dollars in monthly revenue with positive cash flow. The company added a third product, Stances, an information-traceability tool, and says its next step is an 'education AI agent' that builds long-term personalized learning paths. Growth and ARR figures are company-reported.
