What the business is
Unforgetful is a $19.99-per-year iOS, iPad and Mac app that sits on top of Apple Reminders, replacing its notification behavior with persistent alerts and smart-snooze intervals so tasks cannot be silently lost.
The bet
That people who habitually snooze would pay for a judgment-free layer on Apple's own database — notifications that never stop until the task is done.
Starting capital
None raised — an independent developer product with no outside financing disclosed (RuntimeWire).
How it started
Arment built Unforgetful as a private tool this spring after Apple's Reminders repeatedly failed him where a reminder should become an action: a dismissed notification never returned, a task created without a time could sit unseen, and the snooze options never matched how often he postponed things. He described the product in his August 14 launch post as shaped by years of forgotten homework and adults telling him to try harder.
What happened
The product fixes the exact failure points: notifications keep repeating — even after dismissal — until the task is done and deleted; snooze intervals scale as the same task is deferred; multiple tasks never fire at once to avoid freezing the user; and recurring tasks skip the missed-instance backlog. Arment deliberately excluded tags, calendars and folders, keeping it a short-term task list for people who abandon larger productivity systems.
How it ended up
Live as of August 14, 2026: Unforgetful is on the App Store at $19.99 per year for all supported Apple platforms, using the user's existing Reminders database so leaving the app never requires exporting data.
What has to be true
Building on Apple Reminders removed the hardest adoption barrier: users' data already lives there, so switching costs are near zero and Siri capture keeps working.
Arment designed for his own behavior — repeated snoozing and dismissed tasks — which gave the product a precisely defined wedge Apple's generic interface ignored.
Persistent alerts make the app's value continuous rather than one-time, which supports a recurring subscription at a utility-app price.
The narrow scope kept the build small enough for one indie developer to ship, maintain and own outright.
What can be applied
Compete by making the platform's data yours: wrapping Apple Reminders meant zero migration cost, so the product only had to win notification behavior — a smaller bet than a new task system.
Aftermath
As of August 14, 2026 Unforgetful is available on the App Store across iOS, iPad and Mac at $19.99 per year with a one-month free trial, offering persistent repeating notifications, scaled snooze intervals, in-app voice capture, and Lock Screen and Control Center widgets over the user's existing Apple Reminders data. Arment had used the app privately for several months before the public launch and continues to operate it as an independent subscription product with no outside financing.
