业务是什么
A New York incident management startup that helps site reliability engineers detect, resolve and run postmortems on software outages.
The bet
Buying a former competitor beats building its missing pieces in-house: enterprise integrations and customers like CrowdStrike and Ticketmaster came with the deal.
启动资金
Over $30M raised per Crunchbase, plus an undisclosed additional funding round at the time of the acquisition.
如何开始
FireHydrant launched in 2019 in New York, building incident management tooling for site reliability engineers — the software that helps teams find and fix outages and then run postmortems so incidents do not repeat.
发生了什么
Over a few years it expanded from incident response into detection, suppression and prevention, assembling a platform. Earlier in 2024 it added Signals, an alerting tool for on-call IT personnel that competes with PagerDuty. Enterprise-grade integrations, such as with ServiceNow, were still on the roadmap. In February 2024, right after Signals launched, the two CEOs began chatting about a deal, and worked for months on an agreement palatable to both companies' investors.
最终结果
The deal closed by August 21, 2024, with Blameless employees included in it joining FireHydrant that week. Blameless stays a standalone platform short term; its customers migrate to FireHydrant within a year and the brand is to be deprecated once its functionality is folded in. Blameless board members Vas Natarajan (Accel) and Dan Moskowitz (Third Point Ventures) joined FireHydrant's board.
成立的前提
Blameless held finished pieces FireHydrant still had only on its roadmap — enterprise integrations with ServiceNow and Microsoft Teams.
The acquisition brought an enterprise customer base — CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks, VMware, Ticketmaster — that would take years to win organically.
FireHydrant had just shipped Signals and was assembling an end-to-end platform; buying made the consolidation faster than building each missing part.
An undisclosed additional funding at closing plus the added Blameless revenue gave FireHydrant what its CEO called years of runway.
Blameless's investors were accommodated with board seats at FireHydrant (Accel, Third Point Ventures), smoothing a deal between two venture-backed companies.
可以借鉴什么
When a platform strategy keeps leaving gaps on the roadmap, buying a former competitor's missing pieces and customer base can be faster than building.
