Founded in 2007 by Aloke Bajpai and Rajnish Kumar in a small Gurgaon apartment, ixigo began as a travel metasearch engine aggregating rail, air and bus prices. The founders were broke; Elevation Capital's 2024 podcast recounts near-death moments including mortgaging their homes to make payroll while hyper-funded competitors circled.

The pivotal move was the biggest pivot: from metasearch to OTA, capturing bookings instead of clicks. ixigo did three acquisitions in three years — two in the thick of the pandemic — returned to profit in FY23 (₹23 Cr vs a ₹22 Cr loss in FY22), and posted ₹65.7 Cr net profit on ₹491 Cr revenue in 9M FY24. It priced a ₹740 Cr IPO at ₹93 per share that was subscribed 98x.

Listed June 18, 2024 at ₹138.10 on the NSE (+48.5%), closing at ₹165.72 (+78%) with a ₹6,275.87 Cr market cap — India's second-largest OTA by revenue, profitable and public after 17 years.
