The early enthusiasm outpaced the product. Krutrim released its Krutrim-2 base model, but over the following year it cut more than 200 roles across multiple rounds, paused chip design, pulled its Kruti assistant app from app stores in April 2026, and skipped India's AI Impact Summit where rivals like Sarvam showed new models and partnerships.

In May 2026 Krutrim pivoted to domestic AI cloud services.
