Didier Lopes, a software engineer, started building the terminal in December 2020 during the pandemic; traction convinced him to quit his job, rebranded from Gamestonk to OpenBB in early 2022, and raised an $8.5M seed led by OSS Capital with Ram Shriram.
经过
The CLI grew into a platform: SDK, Open Data Platform, Workspace, a web Terminal over ~100 data sources, an Excel add-in and an AI Copilot; the original CLI was sunset in March 2024. By Oct 2024 OpenBB counted ~50,000 Hub users and Lopes told TechCrunch the company would likely raise again.
结果
Wound down as a company in August 2026: Lopes announced the end after concluding the business could not reach sustainable product-market fit, and OpenBB released Workspace, Copilot, the Excel Add-in and the Open Data Platform under permissive open-source licenses.
