Spectarium raised €5M to let AI tailor a mythological RPG to each player

A Finnish cross-platform RPG studio whose first title, Myths, uses AI-driven storytelling built on ancient-myths IP.

That AI can serve as the narrative backbone of a mass-market ARPG, dynamically tailoring mythological storylines to each player's choices.

€5 million seed round led by Bitkraft Ventures, with Delphi Digital and Framework Ventures participating.

Spectarium's core team came together eight years before the raise around a mission to create a game envisioned by its community, building deep trust with a global player base. The studio was founded by Romain Schneider, Mark Peterson and Plarium co-founders Avi Shalel and Gabi Shalel, drawing team members from EA, Epic Games, Riot Games and Square Enix.

On September 20, 2023, the Finnish company announced a €5 million seed round led by Bitkraft Ventures with Delphi Digital and Framework Ventures, to scale the team and develop Myths, its first title, due for soft launch the next year. The studio says its innovation lies in the symbiotic collaboration between AI and storytelling: the AI serves as the narrative backbone, dynamically tailoring the storyline to players' choices and the evolving game maps.

The seed was to fund team expansion and development of Myths toward a soft launch in 2024; the game had not yet launched as of the announcement.

Bitkraft saw content generation as a paradigm shift in studio economics worth an early lead position.

Ancient myths give the AI a global, public-domain story space every player base already knows.

Expanding proven ARPG systems, rather than inventing a genre, kept the AI risk contained to the narrative layer.

The founding team's Plarium and AAA lineage de-risked execution of an otherwise unproven format.

The credible version of the 'AI game studio' pitch pairs generated content with a proven genre skeleton and a team that has shipped ARPGs before.

As of the September 2023 announcement, Spectarium was scaling its team with Myths due for a soft launch in 2024; no game had shipped yet.
