业务是什么
Builds the MT1, America’s smallest electric pickup: Mini Cooper-sized, four doors, kei-truck looks, full truck capability.
The bet
US drivers want full-size truck capability — 8,000lb towing, a 96-inch bed, kei-truck practicality — in a two-door-Mini footprint, and will reserve it sight unseen.
如何开始
Jason Marks (automotive safety and validation at National Instruments) and Forrest North (former Tesla battery engineer, Mission Motors founder, PlugShare cofounder) met through a mutual friend and discovered they had pole-vaulted at the same Washington high school. Designer Yves Behar (fuseproject) joined; Telo was founded in 2022 in San Carlos, California.
发生了什么
The MT1: 152 inches long, a 77 or 106kWh pack (up to an estimated 350 miles), split 800V/400V charging including Tesla V3 Superchargers, in-house fused-cell packs with passive parked cooling, a midgate that opens a 96-inch bed, and a “monster tunnel” storage pass-through. A redesigned hinge pillar — four years and hundreds of thousands of simulated crashes — does the structural work of several parts, roughly halving front-end part count; Tesla’s former head of crash safety joined the team. AI runs virtual crash tests around the clock at roughly one per hour; the body in white is locked and being built by Schwab Industries, with full physical crash testing due in 2027 before deliveries.
成立的前提
Kei trucks fail US crash rules, so the tiny-truck market was structurally locked — the first company to crack crash compliance owns it.
AI-driven virtual crash testing at roughly one test per hour made startup-scale development affordable where physical testing alone would be ruinous.
In-house battery packs — each cell fused, passively cooled while parked — keep the costliest component tariff-sheltered and IP-dense.
Packaging, not powertrain, is the product: 8,000lb towing and a 96-inch bed inside a 152-inch, Mini-sized footprint.
Demand skews premium: about 70% of over 14,000 reservation-holders configured AWD with the long-range pack at a ,520 base price.
可以借鉴什么
Regulation can be a moat for the small: kei trucks cannot pass US crash rules, so whoever reengineers crash structure owns the category — and AI let 30 people afford the try.

As of October 10, 2026, Telo had just over 14,000 refundable reservations, with about 20% from first-time car buyers, concentrated in LA, New York, the Bay Area, Seattle, Dallas, DC, Miami and Denver. The body in white is being built by Schwab Industries in Michigan; physical crash validation, then EPA and California air-quality certification, stand between the truck and customer deliveries targeted for 2027. Telo targets profitability at around 5,000 vehicles within roughly 24 months of deliveries starting.
