A baby registry service that has expanded into health and personal finance, including breast pumps through insurers

A founder who built and took public a company will lead Babylist through its next phase better than a professional CEO hired from outside

Natalie Gordon, a former Amazon software engineer, founded Babylist 15 years earlier and coded early versions herself. She started considering stepping back about 18 months before July 2026.

Jenn Hyman founded Rent the Runway, took it public in 2021 and stepped aside in May 2026 after 18 years, with its share price down about 80% since the IPO. She met Gordon in fall 2025, joined Babylist's board in January 2026 and was named CEO on July 29, taking over September 9. Gordon becomes executive chair.

Babylist's growth into health and finance created a larger business to lead through its next phase

Hyman is a founder who built a company and took it public, an alternative to a professional CEO

Choosing a founder over a 'professional' CEO was a deliberate bet, with Hyman arguing founder-led companies can evolve without losing what makes them special.

As of July 29, 2026 the handoff was announced, with Hyman due to start September 9 and Babylist approaching an IPO.
