BeConfident bets English is learned in WhatsApp: 3M users, $10M+ ARR, $15.8M Series A
Brazilian edtech teaches English through 24/7 AI tutors on WhatsApp; reached 3M users and $10M+ ARR before a Prosus-led $15.8M Series A in Feb 2026
BeConfident
What the business is
A Brazilian edtech that teaches English through unlimited conversational practice with AI tutors and avatars on WhatsApp and its own app, across text, audio and video.
Starting capital:R$85M (~US$15.8M) Series A led by Prosus Ventures, joined by Alexia Ventures, Rethink Education and Scale-Up Ventures (Feb 2026)
How it started
Four friends with robotics backgrounds — the first Brazilian team to win the world robotics championship (2015) — founded BeConfident in 2023 after noticing Brazil has the most English schools in the world yet fewer than 1% of Brazilians are fluent. CEO Robson Amorim and his co-founders bet the bottleneck was speaking practice without judgment.
What happened
BeConfident launched on WhatsApp and grew without burning venture capital: by end-2025 it had 3 million users, 160,000 paying students and more than $10M in annual recurring revenue. In February 2026 Prosus Ventures led an R$85M (~US$15.8M) Series A with Alexia Ventures, Rethink Education and Scale-Up Ventures to fund international expansion and BeConfident Labs, an AI research unit; by March 2026 Canaltech reported about 200,000 paying subscribers across more than 100 countries.
How it ended up
Scaling: 3M+ users, roughly 160,000–200,000 paying students, $10M+ ARR, expanding into the US, Europe and Asia and building a marketplace for subject-specific AI tutor avatars.
Background
BeConfident is a Brazilian edtech founded in 2023 by four friends with robotics backgrounds — the first Brazilian team to win the world robotics championship, in 2015. CEO Robson Amorim and his co-founders noticed a paradox: Brazil has more English schools than any other country, yet fewer than 1% of Brazilians are fluent.
Their bet was that the failure was practice, not teaching: adults freeze when speaking a new language for fear of judgment. So BeConfident built 24/7 AI tutors that run more than ten AI models in parallel for grammar, pronunciation, context and memory, and put them inside WhatsApp — used by over 99% of Latin American smartphone users, opened about 30 times a day.
The model worked before venture money arrived: by end-2025 the company had 3 million users and 160,000 paying students, more than $10M in annual recurring revenue, and a projected fivefold revenue increase for 2026. In February 2026 Prosus Ventures led an R$85M (~US$15.8M) Series A, joined by Alexia Ventures, Rethink Education and Scale-Up Ventures, to fund global expansion and BeConfident Labs, its AI research unit.
As of March 2026 BeConfident reported about 200,000 paying subscribers across more than 100 countries, with plans to expand into the US, Europe and Asia and a marketplace where experts and creators launch subject-specific AI tutor avatars.
What has to be true
- Brazil's huge English-learning market hides a real failure mode — speaking practice — that existing schools don't solve, which gave BeConfident a clear wedge.
- Embedding learning in WhatsApp meant distribution was already solved: no app-install hurdle in a market where WhatsApp is a de facto operating system.
- AI removed the judgment layer that blocks adult speaking practice, making the product's core value proposition defensible.
- Reaching $10M+ ARR before raising venture capital showed the model worked, which is why a global investor like Prosus led the Series A.
What can be applied
Distribution beats novelty in consumer edtech: BeConfident won by putting AI tutoring inside an app people already open 30 times a day, and proved the model before taking venture money.
Aftermath
As of March 2026 BeConfident was scaling internationally: about 200,000 paying subscribers in more than 100 countries, $10M+ ARR at the end of 2025, an R$85M Series A led by Prosus Ventures in February 2026, and plans to expand into the US, Europe and Asia, launch a marketplace for subject-specific AI avatars, and grow revenue fivefold during 2026.
