CleverTap runs a customer engagement and retention platform whose clients include Jio, Paytm, Zomato, IKEA and Domino's.

Deciding the next action for each user in the moment — live context plus history — beats propensity models, and brands will pay for measured uplift, not predictions.

CleverTap spent more than a decade building the data and engagement infrastructure the live loop requires. 'CleverAI is not an incremental product bet for us,' co-founder and CEO Sunil Thomas said at the October 2026 launch of the next CleverAI version.

The launch centres on what CleverTap calls Live 1:1 Personalization. Co-founder and CMO Anand Jain argued most of what the industry markets as real-time is not: 'If the action was decided beforehand, executing it a millisecond after a trigger does not make the decision real-time.' CleverAI runs on TesseractDB plus a decisioning engine, optimises for uplift rather than propensity, and ships explainability features, frequency controls, user-level inspection and data clean rooms for sensitive data.

Personalisation built on past behaviour is stale by the time brands act on it, leaving room for an in-the-moment alternative.

Uplift measurement gives marketers a verifiable reason to pay: which users converted because of the intervention, not just which looked likely to.

A decade of accumulated per-user live and historical data is an asset newer entrants cannot quickly replicate.

Pilot results across banking, restaurant booking and OTT suggest the loop generalises across verticals.

Owning the live data layer is what turns an AI feature into a platform bet — and 'real-time' claims are only as good as the decision loop behind them.

As of the October 8, 2026 launch, CleverAI was live with pilots at three named clients and a platform that includes explainability, frequency controls, user-level inspection and data clean rooms. The company expects CleverAI to become a significant driver of growth but has not published adoption or revenue numbers for it.
