What the business is
Quality-first quick commerce: FirstClub curates premium grocery, F&B, dairy and health products and delivers them in 20-30 minutes via its own stores and dark stores
The bet
India's affluent households would pay a 20-30% premium for curated, lab-tested essentials — so FirstClub competes on trust, not delivery speed
Starting capital
$8M seed (Dec 2024) → $23M Series A (Sep 2025) → $55M Series B (Jun 2026), ~$86M total
How it started
Founded in August 2024 by Ayyappan R — former Cleartrip CEO and Flipkart Senior VP — FirstClub raised an $8M seed co-led by Accel and RTP Global, with angels including Flipkart's Binny Bansal, CRED's Kunal Shah and Myntra's Mukesh Bansal. Ayyappan's thesis: quick commerce's next evolution would be about the quality of what people consume, not speed.
What happened
The platform went live in July 2025 in Bengaluru, delivering in 20-25 minutes and testing items like milk, atta and paneer in labs, using cold-chain bags for dairy, and claiming 60% monthly retention. A $23M Series A at $120M followed in September 2025, funding dark stores, cafes and daily subscriptions; by mid-2026 FirstClub ran 24 stores across Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
How it ended up
In June 2026, Peak XV Partners and Sofina led a $55M Series B that more than doubled the valuation to $255M. FirstClub said it had crossed 1 million orders in under a year of operations and would expand to new cities and categories (beauty, home essentials, pet care) — while still not having launched its promised membership programme.
What has to be true
The premium, trust-first position is differentiated in a market racing on speed and discounts — a wedge incumbents' 10-minute economics don't easily copy
Founder pedigree (Flipkart SVP, Cleartrip CEO) plus Accel, RTP, Peak XV and Sofina gave credibility and capital before launch
Quality claims are product-level and hard to fake: lab tests, cold-chain bags and category bans create tangible differentiation from convenience-first rivals
Retention (claimed 60% monthly) matters more than speed for a curated basket — repeat purchase is the moat in a small premium segment
Physical stores + warehouses give an omnichannel base that pure dark-store rivals lack, supporting trust and fresh logistics
What can be applied
When rivals all optimise the same metric, a differentiated quality position can attract capital — but a premium niche lives or dies on retention, not headlines
Aftermath
As of June 2026, FirstClub was scaling: $55M raised at a $255M valuation, 24 stores across Bengaluru and Hyderabad, 1 million+ orders in under a year, with expansion planned into beauty, home essentials and pet care. The promised membership programme had not launched yet, and the open question was whether the premium segment could grow large enough to justify the valuation — while Blinkit, Zepto and Instamart continued to fight over the mass market below it.
