A savings platform for home down payments: target goals, personalized guidance, rewards toward a purchase, and subscriptions for more support.

$6.2M seed led by Alpaca VC and Hometeam Ventures, with Accion Venture Lab and Clocktower Ventures participating.

Landy Liu spent years at mortgage startup Better.com dealing with overwhelmed first-home buyers. When his turn came in 2022, rates had nearly doubled; he put his purchase on hold and used his down payment to start Foyer, where he remains a user alongside its members.

Foyer launched in Michigan in 2024 and spread nationwide, passing 10,000 users. Users set target savings goals, get personalized guidance on saving, mortgage rates and choosing a real estate firm, earn rewards usable toward a purchase, and can be connected with real estate professionals — who spend billions annually marketing to end users and can now support buyers' financial wellness directly. A subscription membership monetizes the deeper-support tier.

In January 2025 Foyer announced a $6.2 million seed round led by Alpaca VC and Hometeam Ventures, with Accion Venture Lab and Clocktower Ventures participating, to expand and enhance product features.

Home affordability had priced a generation out, so saving for a home now requires more planning than ever.

Every other major life milestone had a dedicated savings product; down payments had none.

Real estate service providers spend billions marketing to end users, giving Foyer a partner-funded reward economy.

Investors framed homeownership as the greatest wealth-building tool for middle-class and minority families shut out elsewhere.

Specialized savings accounts exist for retirement, college and health costs — the white space was the biggest purchase of all, and being your own user keeps the product honest.

As of the January 2025 announcement, Foyer was using the fresh capital to expand and enhance product features, with Liu as an active user of his own platform and competition defined as traditional savings accounts.
