How it started
AI researchers Ben Fielding and Harry Grieve founded Gensyn in 2021 in the UK, betting that the coming AI boom would make compute scarce and that the world's underused GPUs could fill the gap. Eden Block led the $6.5M seed in March 2022.

In June 2023, a16z crypto led a $43M Series A with CoinFund, Eden Block, Protocol Labs, Maven11 and others. Testnet traction then compounded: 140,000 users by October 2025, rising to 165,000+ users and 2,000,000+ trained models by December 2025. A further a16z-led round was priced at a $1B FDV cap, and on December 15, 2025 the Foundation opened the $AI token public sale on Sonar at the same cap, ahead of Mainnet.
How it ended up
Still building toward Mainnet as of late 2025: the token sale is the final public step before the network operates with real value, and Gensyn also launched Delphi, an open marketplace for machine-intelligence evaluation.
Background
Gensyn is a UK-based protocol that turns underused GPUs into a global market for AI training compute. Model creators publish training jobs; owners of idle data-center and edge hardware run them; and a blockchain layer settles payments and stakes. The bet is that this open market can undercut AWS, Azure and Google Cloud on price and supply.
The technical foundation is proof-of-learning — cryptography that lets a buyer verify a training run really happened on rented hardware. Without it, a decentralized compute market cannot work, because no buyer would trust a stranger's claim that they trained a model. Gensyn's founders, Ben Fielding and Harry Grieve, started the company in 2021; Eden Block led a $6.5M seed in March 2022.
