Geureomyo bets fortune chats open Korea's AI counseling market: Jamongda, 350k users

The betFortune content is the wedge: users who return for daily horoscopes will confide real worries, letting an LLM counseling service grow on Toss's existing user base.Live

What the business is

Geureomyo Company's Jamongda (자몽다) is an AI counseling-and-fortune service: users share dreams, daily fortunes and personal worries (romance, career, jobs, relationships) and get hyper-personalized AI feedback, distributed inside Toss's App-in-Toss rather than as a standalone app.

How it started

In Nov 2025, Korea University of Technology and Education (KoreaTech) business majors Kim Dong-ha, Jeon A-ran and Song Jae-ho formed the startup club Geureomyo Company. Their starting principle was to build and test in the market rather than present ideas: Jamongda began as a dream-interpretation service, then the team noticed users do not dream every day, so repeat visits were hard to create.

What happened

Jamongda expanded into daily fortune, saju and tarot content, and as users began opening up about romance, career, jobs and relationships, the team pivoted the product toward 'counseling-type' AI: personalized feedback that reflects each user's situation and context rather than flat predictions. Roughly 60 updates in six months followed user data, and after joining Toss's App-in-Toss the service took No.1 overall in the platform's AI category in June 2026. The team also won KoreaTech's 2026 first-semester startup-idea contest grand prize and entered the Ministry of Education's Student Startup Promising Team 300+ program at its advanced 'leap' stage.

How it ended up

Still live and expanding: as of Aug 2026 the team planned to bring Jamongda to Google Play and the App Store as standalone apps, deepen the AI counseling features, and keep building toward a sustainable business model.

Background

Geureomyo Company (그럼요컴퍼니) is a student startup club at Korea University of Technology and Education, formed in Nov 2025 by three business majors — Kim Dong-ha, Jeon A-ran and Song Jae-ho. Its product Jamongda (자몽다) started as a dream-interpretation service and evolved into an AI 'counseling-type' platform where users check daily fortunes, saju and tarot, then open up about real worries such as romance, careers, jobs and relationships, receiving personalized AI feedback in return.

The team's distribution bet was to launch inside Toss's in-app service platform 'App in Toss' instead of building a standalone app from scratch. Jamongda took No.1 overall in App-in-Toss's AI category in June 2026, and within about six months of launch it had accumulated roughly 350,000 users, iterating through close to 60 updates — an average of one every three days — driven by how users actually behaved.

Recognition followed the usage: the team won KoreaTech's 2026 first-semester startup-idea contest grand prize and was chosen for the Ministry of Education's Student Startup Promising Team 300+ program at the advanced 'leap' stage. As of Aug 2026 the founders planned to expand Jamongda to Google Play and the App Store and deepen the AI counseling layer, positioning the service as hyper-personalized feedback rather than a fortune-telling gimmick.

What has to be true

  • Distribution was the real barrier, so joining App-in-Toss let three students reach Toss's existing user base without marketing spend or app-store optimization.
  • Starting from dream interpretation exposed a retention problem — users do not dream daily — and pushed the team to add daily fortune content that created a return habit.
  • Users' willingness to confess real worries inside a fortune experience validated that AI counseling, not predictions, was the durable product underneath.
  • A ~3-day update cadence let a no-budget team learn from live usage data instead of guessing features.

What can be applied

When a startup has no brand or budget, borrow a platform's distribution and prove the emotional loop first: fortune content bought the daily habit that revealed the real product demand underneath.

Aftermath

As of 3 Aug 2026, Jamongda's verified record: ~350,000 users about six months after launch, No.1 in Toss's App-in-Toss AI category (June 2026), ~60 updates in six months, KoreaTech startup-idea grand prize, and Ministry of Education Student Startup Promising Team 300+ leap-stage selection. The club also runs two sibling student services as cross-checks. Next steps: expand Jamongda to Google Play and the App Store, deepen AI counseling, and build a sustainable business model; no funding round or incorporated company had been announced.
