Giselle: ROUTE06's OSS AI-builder bet — #2 on Product Hunt launch day

Takafumi Endo founded ROUTE06 in Tokyo in January 2020 with Hitoshi Matsumoto and Tadashi Shigeoka, after careers that included founding e-commerce firm Smarby and serving as CPO/CMO of STRIPE DEPARTMENT. The company built enterprise systems at roughly half to a third of traditional SIer cost, then hit the services bottleneck: growth depended on scarce senior engineers. ROUTE06 says Giselle was born after staff requested 'an AI tool that non-engineers can use intuitively,' and the team began using it in daily work. On December 29, 2025 the company released it worldwide as open source under Apache License 2.0, alongside a cloud service (Free with 30 AI-minutes per month; Pro at $20/month) and free self-hosting. The same day it ran a 24-hour Product Hunt launch that finished at #2 Product of the Day with 505 upvotes and 139 comments.

Still running as of early 2026: open-source code and cloud service live, with an announced roadmap of API/MCP support, sandboxing and Slack/Google Workspace integrations.

ROUTE06's consulting growth model was capped by how many senior engineers it could hire, so tools had to carry the expertise.

Open-sourcing under Apache 2.0 removes security and procurement objections for enterprises while inviting community contribution.

A Product Hunt launch gave a Japanese B2B firm instant global developer attention it had no other channel to reach.
