Mumbai startup, founded in early 2020, that connected fans with celebrities and brands through engagement products.

A paying consumer audience for celebrity engagement would grow without heavy discounting; after three years it had not.

About INR 7 Cr in two rounds from LetsVenture, 9Unicorns, AngelList, Pankaj Chaddah, Ramakant Sharma and others.

Founded in early 2020 by Vinamra Pandiya, Mayank Gupta and Joji George, GoNuts went on to onboard over 2,000 celebrities.

Pandiya said the target audience had not grown over three years, that 'a customer will think 50 times' before buying anything over INR 1,000, and that no big VC was convinced by the space. The startup refused heavy discounts, fearing they would 'kill the novelty of the product'.

In September 2022 the founders informed investors and employees and released the B2C staff. Inc42 first reported full shutdown; in July 2023 Pandiya said only the B2C arm had closed and GoNuts continued as a B2B company, with about 300 B2B customers and co-founder George leaving.

The B2C audience did not grow over three years, and Indian shoppers hesitated at purchases above INR 1,000.

Venture funding for celebrity engagement was scarce, with no big VC convinced of the audience.

The founders refused heavy discounting to protect the celebrity's image and the product's novelty.

A consumer product with a high price threshold needs patient capital; GoNuts had neither a growing audience nor funding to wait, so it kept only the business that already paid.

As of 18 July 2023, GoNuts had shut its consumer arm and was continuing as a B2B business with about 300 customers; third co-founder Joji George was leaving. Inc42 corrected its headline from full shutdown after the founder came back to it eight months later.
