What the business is
Danish marketplace for handpicked premium holiday homes, in Scandinavia and Germany
The bet
A prompt-driven visual search over its curated holiday-home photos will inspire holiday choices and help Landfolk win bookings
Starting capital
€10.3 million Series A in July 2024
How it started
Landfolk was founded in 2021 by seven former colleagues from Airbnb. It runs a marketplace of premium holiday homes handpicked on aesthetics, personality, quality and location, launching in Denmark before expanding to Scandinavia and Germany, with southern Europe next.
What happened
In July 2024 it raised a €10.3M Series A. In October it launched Daisy, a feature where users type prompts such as a luxurious room overlooking the ocean or a cosy cabin in the mountains, and get back images linked to properties. CTO Chris Sørensen says it uses vision and language models trained on its listing images, so it can do image-to-image and text-to-image similarity searches without extensive image tagging.
What has to be true
Homes are handpicked on aesthetics and personality, so image-led search fits the product
Landfolk's listing photos gave it data to train vision and language models
Searching by prompt avoids the work of tagging every image
The Series A funding was meant to fuel innovation
What can be applied
A marketplace with distinctive photography can use its own images as the search index, but 'global first' is the company's claim.
Aftermath
As of 2024-10-09 Daisy was live, and Landfolk planned to extend the technology to cover-photo selection and collection curation. No usage or booking figures were reported.
