LimX Dynamics bets humanoids serve homes, not factories; ¥15B valuation, HK IPO filing
Shenzhen's LimX Dynamics bets full-size humanoids for homes and services, fully autonomous — no remote control; ¥15B valuation, 2026 HK IPO filing.
LimX Dynamics (逐际动力)
What the business is
LimX Dynamics builds full-size humanoid robots (Luna, Oli) and multi-form bipedal robots (TRON 1/2) with an embodied-agent OS and motion foundation models, selling to research, commercial and household markets worldwide.
How it started
Zhang Wei, PhD (Purdue, 2009), formerly a tenured professor at Ohio State and now at Southern University of Science and Technology, founded LimX in 2022 in Shenzhen; Zhang Li, ex-WeRide, joined as co-founder and COO. In May 2024 Alibaba's Haoyue took an 18.7% stake — Alibaba's first humanoid investment — and in July 2024 the Series A added China Merchants VC and SAIC's Shangqi Capital.
What happened
March 2025: the A+ round closed, bringing the A-series to ¥500M in half a year with Alibaba, NIO Capital and Lenovo VC among investors; LimX shipped TRON 1, billed as the world's first multi-form bipedal robot, and released LimX VGM, a video-generation method for embodied learning. May 2026: Luna, a 160cm, 27-DoF interactive humanoid for commercial use, launched and was delivered within a month. July 2026: a ~$200M Pre-IPO round at a ¥15B post-money valuation, with ¥2.72B raised in six months; founder Zhang Wei called 2026 'the first year of embodied scenario implementation.'
How it ended up
Running and going public: in August 2026 LimX confidentially filed for a Hong Kong IPO of up to $300M with CITIC Securities, joining a queue of 51 robotics companies; Zhang Wei said that once the technology matures, staying private risks 'disappearing like WM Motor.'
Background
LimX Dynamics, founded in Shenzhen in 2022 by Zhang Wei — a Purdue PhD and former Ohio State professor now teaching at SUSTech — builds full-size humanoid robots (Luna, Oli) and multi-form bipedal robots (TRON 1/2) with its own motion foundation models and an embodied-agent operating system. Its bet: humanoids belong in homes and commercial settings, not factories, and must eventually run fully autonomously — no remote control.
The market signaled early. In May 2024 Alibaba's Haoyue unit took an 18.7% stake, Alibaba's first humanoid-robot investment, and a July 2024 Series A added China Merchants VC and SAIC's Shangqi Capital. By March 2025 the A-series totaled ¥500M in six months, and TRON 1, billed as the world's first multi-form bipedal robot, had reached customers abroad.
In May 2026 LimX launched Luna, a 160cm, 27-DoF interactive humanoid for commercial performances, and delivered it within a month; the company says it has thousands of orders overall, over half from overseas. In July 2026 it closed a ~$200M Pre-IPO round at a ¥15B post-money valuation — ¥2.72B raised in six months — with IDG, Lens Technology and UAE's Stone Venture among backers.
In August 2026 LimX confidentially filed for a Hong Kong IPO of up to $300M with CITIC Securities, riding a wave that put 51 robotics companies in the HK pipeline. Founder Zhang Wei framed the urgency plainly: once the technology matures, a company that stays private risks 'disappearing like WM Motor.'
What has to be true
- LimX rejected the factory-first consensus: humanoids are not efficiency tools, so it targets homes and commercial scenes where interaction and autonomy matter more than throughput.
- Full autonomy was the stated endgame from the start — 'our goal is to eliminate the robot remote control' — so every product decision fed the brain-cerebellum fusion stack rather than a single demo.
- Alibaba's 18.7% stake and industrial investors like SAIC, NIO Capital and Lenovo gave LimX both capital and a channel into real deployment scenarios.
- IPO timing was a deliberate strategic bet: file while the humanoid window is open, because private funding each month dilutes and delays the premium of early public listing.
What can be applied
Choosing a market before the tech is obvious — homes and services instead of factories — plus conviction on timing rode the humanoid wave to a ¥15B valuation; the real test is the IPO window.
Aftermath
As of 2026-09-02 LimX Dynamics is scaling and heading to market: thousands of orders (over half overseas), a ~$200M Pre-IPO round at a ¥15B valuation in July 2026, ¥2.72B raised within six months, and a confidential Hong Kong IPO filing for up to $300M with CITIC Securities reported in August 2026. The company is shipping Luna and TRON products, iterating its System 0 motion model, System 1 VLA/WAM and System 2 embodied-agent OS (COSA), and expanding delivery in the Middle East, Europe and Asia, with founder Zhang Wei calling 2026 'the first year of embodied scenario implementation.'
