What the business is
Develops prescription drugs that extend healthy lifespan in senior dogs, starting with LOY-002, a daily pill that mimics calorie restriction's metabolic effects.
The bet
That a lifespan-extension drug can win FDA approval through the new Expanded Conditional Approval pathway — dog first, humans later.
Starting capital
Over $250M raised to date, including a $100M Series C (Feb 2025) with Age1 and Baillie Gifford.
How it started
Celine Halioua, then chief of staff at Laura Deming's Longevity Fund (an early Loyal backer), founded the company in late 2019 on the insight that dog longevity drugs could run lifespan tests far faster than human ones.
What happened
LOY-001 won the first-ever FDA 'reasonable expectation of effectiveness' for a lifespan drug in Nov 2023 (276-pt HN thread). Lead pill LOY-002 got RXE in Feb 2025; its 1,300-dog STAY efficacy trial finished enrollment in July 2025; the $100M Series C followed days later, taking Loyal past $250M raised.
What has to be true
Dogs compress the experiment: a 1,300-dog lifespan trial finishes in years, where a human one would take decades.
The FDA's Expanded Conditional Approval pathway was built for unmet needs like this, and Loyal is the first to walk it.
Pet owners pay out of pocket and already buy longevity-adjacent care; no insurer sits between price and value.
Being first on a new pathway sets the precedent every later competitor must clear.
What can be applied
Pick the species and jurisdiction where your trial can actually run: dog lifespans made a lifespan study feasible, and vet customers already pay cash. Firsts on a new regulatory pathway compound.
Aftermath
As of September 2026, Loyal is clinical-stage and pre-revenue: LOY-002 has RXE (Feb 2025) and Target Animal Safety (Jan 2026) accepted, with the manufacturing section and an Expanded Conditional Approval filing expected in 2027. LOY-001 and LOY-003, its injection and pill for size-related lifespan extension, trail by a year or two. The company says a final approval would make LOY-002 the first FDA-approved lifespan-extension drug for any species; skepticism to watch is whether the STAY study shows a full, healthy extra year in dogs.
