Learnings' Meowdoku bet: cat-sudoku tops US iOS charts, ~10M June downloads
Learnings' Meowdoku tops US iOS in a month and becomes June 2026's fastest-growing game, proving packaging plus paid UA can revive a proven puzzle rule.
Learnings (乐信圣文 / Oakever Games)
What the business is
An ad-monetized casual puzzle game in which players place one cat per colored region so no two share a row, column or diagonal - sudoku and minesweeper logic with the numbers stripped out.
How it started
Learnings (乐信圣文), founded in Beijing in 2016, built its business by industrializing validated casual mechanics - Vita Mahjong, Tile Explorer, Zen Word and Arrows GO! - for global ad-monetized distribution. In 2026 it spotted Queens Puzzle, a 2024 webgame with nearly the same sudoku-plus-minesweeper rule that went viral on LinkedIn and then faded for lack of a mobile product.
What happened
Meowdoku soft-launched globally in late April 2026 and concentrated ad buying on US iOS from mid-May. Sensor Tower data shows the climb: outside the US top 300 around May 25, #1 on the US iPhone free-games chart on June 2, then weeks near the top. June installs passed 10M with the US contributing 27.3%, DAU crossed 1M in June and ~2.04M by July 12, and a Youxi Tuoluo report put daily ad revenue near $200K. The same quarter, Sensor Tower's China mobile-game download chart put three Learnings titles in the top five - Arrows GO! #1, Vita Mahjong #4, Meowdoku #5 - with about 40M combined June downloads across the trio per AppMagic.
How it ended up
Still scaling: Meowdoku held the US iOS top 2 for weeks after its June 2 peak, reached ~2M global DAU by mid-July, and stayed in July's global top 20 at #13 with 10.5M downloads, while Learnings rode the same playbook to three slots in Sensor Tower's June China mobile-game download top five.
Background
Meowdoku is an ad-monetized mobile puzzle game from Learnings (乐信圣文 / Oakever Games), a Beijing studio founded in 2016 that industrializes already-validated casual mechanics. Players place one cat in each colored region so that no two cats share a row, column or diagonal - the logic of sudoku combined with minesweeper, but with numbers and arithmetic replaced by colors, cats and three lives.
The mechanic was not new: Queens Puzzle, a 2024 webgame that went viral on LinkedIn, used nearly identical rules and then faded without a mobile follow-up. Learnings' bet was that the same logic could become a lasting mobile hit if the wrapper lowered the barrier - 30-second rule comprehension, visual exclusion instead of probability math - and the game was built from day one as an ad machine, with interstitial ads on level clears and rewarded video on revives.
The chart run validated the bet. Soft-launched globally in late April 2026 with concentrated US iOS ad buying from mid-May, Meowdoku went from outside the top 300 to #1 on the US iPhone free-games chart on June 2, 2026, per Sensor Tower. June installs passed 10 million with the US contributing 27.3%, DAU crossed one million in June and reached about 2.04 million by July 12, and Sensor Tower named it June's fastest-growing game by downloads.
The success is part of a system, not a one-off: in June 2026 Learnings placed three titles - Arrows GO!, Vita Mahjong and Meowdoku - in the top five of Sensor Tower's China mobile-game download chart, with roughly 40 million combined downloads that month per AppMagic. Meowdoku ranked #13 globally with 10.5M downloads in July, and Youxi Tuoluo estimated its daily ad revenue at close to $200K in August.
What has to be true
- Learnings did not invent the mechanic: Queens Puzzle, a 2024 viral webgame, used nearly the same sudoku-minesweeper rule and faded without a mobile follow-up.
- Meowdoku replaced arithmetic with visual exclusion - colored regions, one cat per row, column and diagonal - so non-puzzle players grasp the rule in seconds.
- The game was designed as an ad machine: interstitial ads on level clears, rewarded video for the three-life revive, and an ad cooldown that shrinks when a losing player keeps retrying.
- Concentrated paid UA on US iOS from mid-May 2026 moved the game from outside the top 300 to number one in about a week, per Sensor Tower.
- The result turned an old rule into a durable casual franchise instead of a one-week web fad: roughly 10 million downloads in June and about 2 million DAU in July.
What can be applied
A proven mechanic is not the product; the wrapper decides who downloads. Learnings softened a viral webgame's exact logic with cats and colors, then bought scale with ads.
Aftermath
As of August 25, 2026, Meowdoku is still scaling: after topping the US iPhone free-games chart on June 2 it stayed near the top for weeks, reached roughly 2.04 million global DAU on July 12, and drew close to $200K a day in ad revenue, per Sensor Tower estimates cited by kchuhai and Youxi Tuoluo. Learnings ran the same template across Arrows GO!, Vita Mahjong and Meowdoku, which took three of the top five spots in Sensor Tower's June 2026 China mobile-game download chart and roughly 40 million combined downloads that month per AppMagic.
