What the business is
Nabla builds ambient clinical AI: its Copilot listens to a consultation and generates the clinical note in seconds, with AI-assisted coding and electronic health record integration, and it is expanding from documentation into dictation, pre-charting, coding and agentic workflows that act inside clinical software; the company was founded in Paris in 2018.
The bet
Win clinicians through ambient notes, then become the AI that runs their software: from scribe to coding, agents and every workflow where doctors touch screens.
Starting capital
Founded in Paris in 2018 by Alexandre LeBrun (previously CEO of Wit.ai, which Facebook acquired), Delphine Groll and Martin Raison, Nabla raised about $43M through its January 2024 Series B, which was led by Cathay Innovation with ZEBOX Ventures; its June 2025 Series C of $70M, led by HV Capital with Highland Europe, DST Global, Cathay Innovation and Tony Fadell's Build Collective, brought total funding to $120M.
How it started
Founded in Paris in 2018 by three veterans of AI and healthcare — LeBrun, who built Wit.ai before Facebook acquired it, CTO Martin Raison and COO Delphine Groll — Nabla aimed its AI at medicine. By January 2024 it had raised about $43M through a $24M Series B led by Cathay Innovation and was selling Nabla Copilot, which generates clinical notes in seconds across specialties and identifies medical coding, targeting US healthcare systems. LeBrun later told Fierce Healthcare that the company's aims were very different two years on as customers pulled it beyond documentation.
What happened
Nabla's growth came from following the customer: after notes, clinicians wanted dictation, pre-charting, coding support and help with the long tail of repetitive workflows, so the assistant expanded from a documentation tool into a general clinical AI that integrates with electronic health records and revenue-cycle systems. By June 2025 it was used by 85,000 clinicians across more than 130 organisations — academic medical centers, safety-net hospitals, community health centers and physician groups — and revenue had multiplied fivefold in six months. The $70M Series C announced 2025-06-17, led by HV Capital, funded an Adaptive Agentic Platform with proactive coding agents, a context-aware agent and care-setting agents for nurses, moving Nabla from writing notes to acting inside clinical software.
How it ended up
The bet matured into a scale-up: in July 2026 Nabla named Brian Manning — who had scaled Bamboo Health past $140M in annual recurring revenue — as CEO, moving co-founder LeBrun to Executive Chairman and Chief AI Officer. The company reported 100,000+ clinicians, 190+ health systems and 40 million annual encounters, with LeBrun also leading AMI Labs, the world-model research company founded with Yann LeCun that gives Nabla exclusive early access to its models. The original ambient-notes wedge had become the entry point to a platform, and the founder-to-professional-CEO handoff marked the shift from proving the product to industrialising sales.
What has to be true
Documentation is the pain clinicians feel daily, so ambient notes delivered visible value in weeks — a wedge that earned trust before Nabla asked for scope.
Every workflow after notes reused the same patient conversation, so coding, pre-charting and billing expanded the data moat instead of starting new products from scratch.
Revenue multiplied fivefold in six months because the buyer was the health system with the staffing shortage, and the product paid for itself in recovered clinician hours.
The CEO handoff separated two scaling problems: Manning industrialised enterprise sales while LeBrun kept model research, with AMI Labs securing frontier-model access Nabla lacked.
What can be applied
Start where the pain is measurable: Nabla won on documentation, where clinicians feel the lost hours, then stretched into every workflow where doctors touch software — trust first, scope second.
Aftermath
As of 2026-09-06 Nabla is scaling as a clinical AI platform: 100,000+ clinicians across 190+ health systems and 40 million annual encounters, led by an enterprise CEO since July 2026 while co-founder LeBrun heads AI. Funding stands at $120M after the June 2025 Series C led by HV Capital, and the product has moved from ambient notes to coding, dictation, pre-charting and agentic workflows, backed by an exclusive AMI Labs partnership. Open questions: whether agentic actions inside EHRs win the same trust as note-taking, and whether Nabla out-executes rivals like Abridge, Ambience and Nuance.
