What happened

Background

Physical Superintelligence (PSI), a Cambridge, Massachusetts startup founded by Matt Pines, Alexander Wissner-Gross, Alex Klokus and Alessandro Morari, came out of stealth on September 1, 2026 with $58 million in seed funding led by Breakthrough Energy Ventures. Its bet: AI can industrialize physics discovery through Emmy, a platform of 'virtual physicists' that generates hypotheses, writes code, runs simulations and tests designs, with every result forced through independent verification gates such as conservation laws, symmetry, dimensional consistency, formal proof and physical measurement.
